I fully understand all of the concepts learned, such as the rhetorical precise and the PIE format, and I also feel like I have a much better understanding of how to write more professionally. I realized that I actually enjoy writing when I write professionally, and when it’s about a topic that I am passionate about or have researched extensively. Before this class, I was an average writer, but now I feel much more confident. Also, this class has helped me with numerous writing assignments in other classes as well.…

The supplemental videos, quizzes, and audio incorporated in the modules had further explanation and a visual aid that my textbook did not have. I am a visual and auditory learner so this was very helpful. The online Facebook page allowed all classes to post questions about the material they were struggling with. I checked this page regularly as other student’s questions shed light on some topics that weren’t completely clear to me and further helped me understand them. It was a great communication tool to have classroom time outside of school.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

Transitioning from middle school to high school is scary enough, not to mention finding out that your best friends won’t be attending that same school adds a little pressure on a pre-teen who, for the most part is really shy. When I first started high school I had a cousin who was a year older than me, she showed me around school and I ended up hanging out with her and her friends for a few months. Then she introduced me to some of her newer friends who were in the same grade as me. They were nice people and they got me through the first year of high school, but I never felt like I belonged to “their group”.…

This course has improved myself as a writer and has a critical thinker; with the essays that were written I was challenged to ask more questions and see the bigger picture on things and view a subject from all sides. I never wrote an argumentative essay before this course, so this course taught me what it was how to write one and what exactly I was looking for and what I would be able to improve on. I know there is still room for improvement, but taking this course has already made me a better writer from when I started. Writing argumentative essays would help improve many skills as an individual by learning how to approach important issues without taking a side and learning this would also help if a person was trying to prove a point…

On August 29, 2016 I walked in to the Family Life building of Utah State University knowing that I was not going to be a fan of my first class – English 1010. I knew I would not like it because I had learned to hate writing for someone other than myself in my senior year of high school. I had a teacher who loved to make essays and papers bleed with red ink. She told us it was to improve our writing; what it really did was make me hate writing. Deanna Allred did not have the goal to grammatically correct us into submission; she wanted to show us our writing could be good and our writing was allowed to start out bad.…
