We have been learning about the Holocaust and World War 2 for many years as part of our social studies curriculum. Most of us probably, and I hope, know that this was a bad thing for Hitler to do and be a part of. You always feel more empathy and sadness when you actually read documentaries about people that have experienced this terrible time. The story Night by Elie Wiesel shares her personal experiences of being kicked out of her hometown and being transported to the camps, what happened at the camps and the impact it had on her, and how there was so much death going on and barely anybody survived. Hungary a place where Jews are happily living their lives until the German armies take it all over.…
The creation of the einsatzgruppen started one of the first ever genocides in history, by the development of groups that would literally go door to door murdering minorities. With over a million confirmed kills, the Einsatzgruppen contributed to over fifteen percent of people who were killed in the genocide alone. With the technologies and masterminds behind the operation, it truly seemed like nothing could stop this destructive force. The killing squads jump started even concentration camps and other killing methods used in the Holocaust, this event was truly entirely their fault. The Einsatzgruppen were groups of people in Hitler’s ranks in the Holocaust who would hunt down minorities and killed them.…
170,000 Jewish men, women, and children were killed in gas chambers and liquidation centers; freight cars of people would be killed at once. "We heard the whine of the generator that started the submarine engine which made the gas that killed them. I remember standing and listening to the muffled screams and knowing that men, women and children were dying in agony as I sorted their clothes. This is what I live with" (Paterson, 3). During the making of the camp, roughly 250 Jews died; about 11 SS officers and Ukraine guards were killed during the uprising.…

The Dehumanization of Jews by Hitler and the Nazi Regime Hitler and his Nazi regime used effective tactics to dehumanize and degrade the Jewish people, and reduced them to nothing but small beings that they could then rid themselves of. Some of these tactics were small, and some of the tactics were large. No matter the size, all of these tactics were completely inhumane and horrifying. Sadly, they also all took place in the book Night, by Elie Wiesel. His memoir can attest to how dehumanization occurred, and how it helped Hitler achieve his goal; The Final Solution.…

During the twentieth century, Europe was the stage of an exceptional amount of violence, experiencing numerous wars. In the course of these wars and interwar periods, millions died both in battle and as a result of governmental policies. Notably, the years leading up to World War Two and the several years following the Second World War, saw a great amount of violence in Eastern Europe. While a globally dominant Western perspective usually sets Western Europe as the stage for the atrocities which occurred during this period of violence, it was in fact in Eastern Europe where considerably more of the violence war endured. The novel Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin (2010) by Timothy Snyder, Snyder examines, primarily through secondary sources, (Ahonen 6), that the area which he titles the “bloodlands”, which includes Poland, the Baltic States, Soviet Belarus, Soviet Ukraine and western Soviet Russia, (Snyder xi).…
