Exploring Sexually Transmitted Diseases Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) have become an epidemic world-wide. There are more than twenty kinds of sexually transmitted diseases all of which can be passed through sexual intercourse (Kolesnikow 9). The most common STD’s in the United States are Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Genital Warts, Genital herpes, Syphilis, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). It is produced by an infection of the human papillomavirus, also known as HPV. Human papillomavirus can cause several types of cancers, such as cervical, anal, throat, and other mouth cancers. People who develop genital warts are at higher risk for these cancers than people who aren’t associated with this disease. Genital warts can be transferred to a person by unprotected sex. If diagnosed with genital warts, it is recommend that you wear a condom each time you have sexual intercourse. Women between the ages of fifteen and twenty four are most likely to contract this non-curable disease. Sixty-two million humans are affected by genital warts world-wide.
