Prompt:- Based on the class activity on theme, choose the theme that you think is the most important in the book. Explain why you think this and cite examples from the book that support your opinion.
The theme in the book Skellig by David Almond, is related to faith. Faith can produce strong, trusting relationships. In the beginning of the book, Michael trusted a secret of Skellig’s existence to Mina, he had faith that she would not betray his trust. In contrast, Michael’s dad is a flat character as we know little about him and the action of the novel only engages him slightly. Michael’s dad seems like a flat character, but we do know some things about him. Michael’s dad is that he was decorating and fixing the house. “I stirred the green paint he was going to use on the dining room walls. I laid the old sheets.“(45) He was painting the house because they just moved to the house and it was really messy. He is careful and practical. Another important point about about Michael’s dad is that he cares a lot about his son. “He squeezed my shoulder and said everything will be better.”(9) This suggests that he was concerned about his son’s well being and his feelings. He was scared when his son went into the garage, he reminded his son to be aware.
