The Exploding Lunch Bag
Introduction “POP!” A balloon just blew up. But no, it was a plastic bag. But no one was there. So who blew it up? It turns out that it blew up by a mixture of vinegar, baking soda, and… WATER!!! What do you think, can you pop a bag with that mixture?
Purpose
The reason why I chose this experiment is because I have seen the reaction when both vinegar and baking soda go together… an explosion of vinegar. And if vinegar and baking soda can make a huge explosion, then I think that they can work together to blow up a plastic bag.
Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that I think that the Baking Soda and Vinegar can explode/blow up a plastic bag. That is my hypothesis because if a combination of …show more content…
The way how the experiment works is pretty easy, everyone knows what the baking soda and the vinegar do when they mix. The tissue with the baking soda is so that you get a little bit of time to close the bag when the mix of the vinegar and the baking soda start to erupt. When you close the bag, carbon dioxide starts to fill up the bag and it starts to inflate, until, it is so full of carbon dioxide, that it pops. But sometimes it does not blow up the bag, Sometimes the carbon dioxide only inflates the bag until it looks like it is about to pop, but it just stays like that and it never explodes.
Reflection
I think that the experiment was very fun, it was fun because I enjoyed the excitement of just waiting for the bag to explode. When the bag explodes, it makes a really loud sounds. But the thing is, it depends on the amount that you put. But sometimes, the bag just inflates but it does not explode. I think that it is really interesting because I found out that when you put vinegar, water, and baking soda, that they create carbon dioxide that eventually uses all of its strength to pop a bag. Isn't that interesting? I think that it is one of the most interesting experiments.
