In my current ICU setting, the caring process is very important to how I practice and provide care. Caring applies not only to the patient in particular, but often just as much if not more to the family and loved ones of the patient. Having the capability to cure a patient is favorable, but providing the caring aspect can separate good nurses from great nurses in that caring for patients can at times be rare. In the ICU setting the care process and care theories can be applied and influential aspects of positive patient changes. In the future as a family nurse practitioner, these care theories are just as applicable. Practitioners can be set apart by the interest and intent that they show and share with their patient. Having a knowledge base of these care theories can make a difference when they are applied to the patient experience and by reiterating to the patient that they are not just being cared for physically, but also being cared for
