Explanatory Essay As a kid, I always loved Halloween, but never liked to watch scary movies. It might not make sense to most people, including my older sister. My older sister loves me and all, but she also loves to terrorize me, mostly like all older siblings. I was about 12 years old and it was Halloween night. It was late, after me and my friends were done trick or treating. I’d had a great night until I got home. My sister begged me to watch a scary movie with her. It was Halloween so I decided to watch it because why not. I asked her what movie we were going to watch, she said The Conjuring. Even though I was scared, I had decided to watch it. After the movie was over I was walking up stairs to go to bed. Almost to my room, my sister popped out of nowhere and scared me. I screamed and cried and couldn’t sleep that night. This was supposed to be a great day, but it quickly transformed into a terrifying night which I could not handle. Transformation obviously creates fear. This can be seen in the following three stories as well. Oat’’s “Where …show more content…

One example is “And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain, Thrilled me-filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before, so that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating”(104) This is an example of transform because of how interesting and uncertain this story is. Another example is “Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning, soon again, I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.”(105) This has transformed in it also because of how this quote can be both interesting and uncertain. Therefore, transformation is effective because of how the story can be both interesting and uncertain at the same time, and other times it can be either

The Raven Reader Response The distinction between imagination and real life in literature is sometimes hard to identify. The authors of these types of works make imagination seem so realistic that the audience begins to believe the character's imagination. In the poem, The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, an imaginary bird, or perceived to be an imaginary bird, flies into the narrator's home late in the night signaling to him that death was on its way. The bird in this poem may seem real but there are many signs that it is not.…

Joyce Carol Oates “Where Is Here” uses transformation to inflict fear upon the reader by showing scare people because it shows how a n ordinary household normal house can change in an instant and make the reader uncomfortable. This is effective because it goes to show how ordinary scenarios can transform into unordinary scenarios at any given time. In contrast, “The patterned wallpaper seemed drained of color” (76). This is unordinary because it goes to show how before the stranger visited the family, their lives and the house were completely normal, and after the stranger left the house seemed “out of place.” The house was realistic before the stranger since it was colorful, however when the stranger left, so did the color.…

He conveys this through the major themes of death, depression at the loss of a loved one, different aspects of spirituality, and an inability to escape death. In relation to death, the first-person narrator of the poem is haunted by the loss of his dead love, Lenore. Lenore may symbolize the lost loves of any person, and how with their death was taken beauty and life. Without Lenore, the narrator finds himself to be “weak and weary” (“The Raven” 1).…

In Hamlet , Shakespeare utilizes the characterization of the ghost of King Hamlet to convey significant and climatic messages to the protagonist who , based on the information that is provided , carries out major plot - shifting developments . This leads the reader to make the connection to all that the protagonist does within the text and the initial meeting between the younger and elder Hamlet .
