Till this day I Natalie Penaloza hate all scary movies, mazes, and scary stories. It all started when I was little my Tia Yolie and my brother Julian would always pop out and scare me, but this one time I started crying. I came home in a happy mood and as soon I walked in the gate my Tia popped out. I screamed and cried ran inside to my Tia Letty. As soon ran through the door my brother popped out the door with a mask and I fell to the floor and started crying. The day transformed because I was having a good day and then I was attacked by my Tia and brother! Joyce Carol Oates’ “Where is Here” transformation scares because the story goes from being this loving family to the dad hitting the mother. This is effective because on a normal day a stranger pops up and ask if he can have a tour. This is effective because it causes readers to question their own choices. One example is when “ For years they had lived without incident in their house in a quiet residential neighbor…” (Pg. 69). This shows that the house is a normal day and nothing big ever happens. In contrast, “The father pushed past her without comment and the lights flickers” (79). This proves that “Where is Here” uses transformation.
