Later, I learned that this class is very acceptable to one another and would not judge you based on your sexual orientation, religion, race. The implication of safe space was also mentioned in the application of racial identity article, where there are four stages to reduce classroom resistance and promoting student development. Throughout this course, I believe all the 4 stages would be applied, which are; creating safe space, opportunities for self-knowledge, using different models to better understand ourselves and empowering students as change agents. The professors also had us do a series of activities to learn about everyone’s identity and how our generation can make a difference in expressing their feelings about their identity. On our first activity after introducing ourselves, was to be divided into 2 circles and talk about certain subjects with different individuals each subject, from being bullied, having conflict, name and travelling. Next, a series of questions were asked and if we are in a certain category we would have to stand up and speak up about it, for example; a group of individuals stood up when they were asked if they had a private identity, some students were emotional about revealing their identity, some students expressed their sexual orientation and some did not participate. …show more content…
Thus, throughout this week I believe that the leading diversity class would strongly implicate the four stages of reduce classroom resistance and promoting student development. Implicating the four stages would help me better understand the student’s current identities and how it shifted throughout the years, due to their race, culture, sexual orientation and more. It is very hard to not judge one another, but knowing a person’s life stories and experiences would help us grow and stop judging one
