Explain Wrong Is Always Wrong Immanuel Kant

Decent Essays
"Wrong is always wrong(Immanuel Kant). However, there are some circumstances that telling the truth would be immoral.
For instance, if you have a friend that is in an abusive relationship and wants you to hide her in your home would you do it? I believe that in a situation like this it is your obligation to protect your friend and lie about her whereabouts to her husband. I strongly agree with Kant that its immoral, but sometimes a little white lie will safe someone's life.

After reading the article "Is Lying for the Greater Good Ethical" By Thomas G. Plante, it is evident that sometimes lying can be for the greater good because it can prevent other people getting their feelings hurt and being hurt physically . First the author states that, "Sometimes lying could be the more appropriate ethnical response to a ethnical conflict." "For example, if a friend of yours were to ask you "How do I look in my new outfit." "One might be compelled to tweak the truth to not offend or hurt the feelings of someone who matters to you". This means that a tiny white lie like this really isn't going to matter in any way shape or form.…

It is a way of escaping the reality of a problem or it is a last resort because you do not want to embarrass yourself by being honest. Moreover, the adage “honesty is the best policy” does not always ring true for many. Sometimes we have to lie in order to get to the truth. In Stephanie Ericsson’s “The Ways We Lie,” we find that lying is a natural and unavoidable act.…

I argue that lying is permissible in situations where lying is used for the greater good of others, which is supported by John Stewart Mill’s conception of Utilitarianism. According to Kant in the “Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals” it is not permissible to lie because he defines morality as not harming others, which lying does according to his “Metaphysics of Ethics.” Conversely, Utilitarianism is the theory that right actions maximize happiness, which could mean this happiness is acquired at another’s expense. At the core of this theory is the Greatest Happiness Principle. This principle states that one should act such that one’s actions produce the greatest happiness for the greatest number.…

If you ask most people do you think lying is acceptable, majority of them will not hesitate and tell you yes, and then give you multiple reasons on why lying is a bad thing. But if you actually sit down and think, everyone lies several times a day sometimes without even knowing it because the lie was so small and meaningless. But in other occasions people lie to protect things they care for and about they are also willing to accept the consequences behind their lies and actions. Some may even feel that lying at that point of time it was acceptable due to the situation they are put in. In the short story “Someone Ought to Tell Her…

Studies show that lying is sometimes acceptable in certain situations to prevent any harm that can be brought on an individual. Lying to protect an individual secures the situation by sugar coating a lie that is being performed. Misleading someone can cause harm such as trust issues and that reflects badly on the person who is lying. Lying must be taken into consideration when it could protect one another. For Example, in the article “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying” by Randy Cohen says, ¨In the AP-Ipsos poll, 65 percent of those questioned said it was sometimes OK to lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings.”…

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

Lying is acceptable if it is to make life easier or to protect others, but some people say lying is unacceptable in any situation. First, lying can be used to protect others. For Kant, lying is always wrong. It does not matter the situation someone is, as long as someone does the right thing for the sake of duty. However, there are paternalistic lies, which are lies that human being uses for protecting other people’s lives. Kant thinks if we do so, we are taking away their human rights. He says that lying affects our “intrinsic worth”, would threat people as a mean and not as an end, and would hurt people’s feeling.…

Lying is never ethically okay, yet it is done on a daily basis and is therefore more widely accepted by various people. Generally, lying should be avoided, but there are many situations where it is justified. Instinctive lies, or lies that you automatically tell on the spot are usually ok because it is part of human nature to instinctively lie to protect ourselves. However, planned lies, like stories that you make up on the go or false ideas that you think of before expressing them should never be allowed. For example, if someone were to ask you if you ate the last piece of cake, depending on their tone of voice, for many, their first instinct would be to say, “No!,” without even thinking.…
