Explain Why You Need To Run A 5k

When I told my siblings at dinner they uncontrollably laughed so hard that they cried. They told me I was crazy; running three miles was suicide and I felt that what they were saying had merit. You see I am not much a sportsman when I was a younger while others played basketball or soccer I prefered to stay and inside and have long conversations with any adult I could find. The moral of this story is that you do not need to be an experienced runner to run a 5k and so that brings me to my number one myth.

While the 541,000 marathon finishers within the US all come from different backgrounds and have distinct differences, they are frighteningly similar in many aspects of their lives. Take for instance the level of training and determination each marathon runner has. Six out of the seven days every week for at least a couple months, they spend their days in the gym and out on the trails. One must build a body of muscle in order to complete the lengthy race – as is demonstrated by the father-son duo of Ken and Will Satre. Don’t let Ken Satre’s age or small stature fool you; he is a machine.…

Greetings classmates, A 3 mile run from my house is a historic place that was settled by the Timucua Indians, French and Spanish explorers. The run takes place on mostly shaded sidewalk with some dappled sunlight. Occasionally, I will have my iPhone with me for music and tracking purposes but sometimes I don’t bring it. There are rarely other runners when I run. The run there and back is a time of reflection to gain focus and clarity about the coming events.…

Dedication is the one word that I can use to describe Jim Polite, my cross country and track and field coach my four years of high school. As I ran back to my car on Tuesday, while the rain was falling so hard that cars had to stop and pull-over to the side of the rode, I noticed one thing and that was that Polite was standing in the hard rain, still watching and making sure his athletes are performing well. This moment made me realizes that an interview was not going to satisfy what I needed to know about this man. So for the next few hours or so I stood by and observed what he was doing, saying, and how he was interacting with his athletes and coaches. Running was already something that was difficult for all the athletes, whether or not they were good or bad, and it wasn’t something that was easy to get into because it required a great amount of tolerance for pain.…

Throughout the book, Walls endured many struggles while traveling with her dysfunctional family. Jeannette’s father is constantly getting in the way of her success, from stealing her money to not always making her go to school. Eventually, she leaves her parents behind and makes her way to New York City, where she goes to college and finds success. Similar to how Jeannette had to overcome the obstacles between her and her success, her parents in The Glass Castle, I had to overcome the obstacle between me and my success, my bones.…

Bang, the gun sounds. I sprint out of my box, following teammates in pursuit of the leader. The pack of cross country runners appears to envelop me from my parent’s sight. I hurdle toward the first flag, passing competitors right and left. All the rest is a blur, just the pounding of my heart and the thumping of feet as I run, breathing heavier and heavier, twisting and turning through the trails to reach the chute.…

The differences between the image of life as a race and the image of life as a run is that if you view running as a race you’re competing against others as you would in your life, whereas if you view running as just a run you get to choose the way you want to run. You can choose how long you want the race to be and you can choose when to stop and no one is competing against you. You have the ability of freedom and the right to clarify if you have really won or lost. Making running a race restricts the limits that are available for you to have.…
