Explain Why We Were In Your Basement

Improved Essays
We were in your basement. My legs were on either side of your hips while you were sitting on the couch that is still in here even though your mom keeps telling you to throw it away. You never listened to her. Because you want your dad to help you throw it away; but your dad left when you were seven. He left the same day you told me you wanted to become superman when you grow up so you could protect me from everything I was afraid of. You never got over him leaving and we both know you never will. So that's why the couch is still in the basement. I don't know why we were always down here. Maybe it was because it felt like we were the only people in the world or it's because you can smoke weed without your mom noticing. Either way I loved it

My mind was running its own thoughts as it planned the day I had ahead of me. I walked into my parents’ room, taking a sip of hot coffee from my mother’s mug. I knew she hated it when she would suck her teeth together and gesture me to get my own. The taste of the coffee would get me up and if I tried to make it like hers, I’d fail. She would always be rushing to get the first things done in my father’s family business, the smell of iron running through her oil stained t-shirts.…
