An amendment I would want to see added to the Constitution as the 28th amendment would be that in order to vote you need to take a literacy test. A test proving that the citizens have basic knowledge of how the government works and an idea of what their representatives stand for. When voters do not know the policies or beliefs of the one they are voting that they are putting in a powerful position, they are affecting not only themselves, but the whole nation. If you are impacting our nation, you should at least understand how it works. The test could not be highly advanced, but enough that someone with a basic high school education could pass.…

Amendment 71 to Colorado’s constitution spits in the face of democratic virtue. Colorado, being one of just 18 states in the union that allows its citizens to initiate constitutional amendments, is now assailed by private interests that would prefer to exclude the common Coloradan. Specifically, Amendment 71 makes it more difficult to amend the Colorado Constitution by requiring each and every initiative to have signatories from each and every senatorial district in Colorado, a feat that has never been accomplished by any initiative, equalling 2% of the registered voters in each respective district. Additionally, the initiative must then garner 55% of the state senate vote for passage as opposed to a simple majority. Proponents of the bill say that the Colorado Constitution is far too easy to amend and that we must raise the bar for all future bills.…

The United States was founded on the basis of representative democracy. We vote officials into office that we trust to make legislation for the people. They do their best as leaders to take into account the wants and needs of the constituents. Although many people feel as if the use of direct democracy can help the constituents be happy and get what they want. However, the use of ballot initiatives are not the best option due to the fact that they will result in a mess in the American political system.…

Hello Alondra, I agree on your beliefs of why citizens don't vote in the election. It's terrible to think that all these U.S. candidates are so dedicated to getting a certain group to vote for them and ignoring the other groups. I think voting is like flipping a coin its either one person wins or the other. I know many voters feel that their ideas will be neglected by candidates, but I think its better yo have a say in what you believe in then not have a say at all.…

In my opinion, the 21st amendment is the most significant minus the Bill of Rights. Many of you may disagree, however, prohibition caused an uproar of crime and an economic meltdown. The overall thought behind the 18th amendment some would say to be beneficial. The result, however, was detrimental enough to be the first amendment ever repealed.(history.com staff 2010) Many religious cultures and other advocates promoting a “dry” America believed that making alcohol illegal would make us a better country.…

Texas manages to simultaneously rank among the best and worst in the nation when it comes to education, but only because it excels in some fields and fails in others. An unfortunate side effect of this is that some political leaders in Texas think that budget cuts and funding in regards to education can be used to manipulate their power and political campaigns in order to forward their agenda. Education is a window to future careers; children and young adults should have access to educational services and/or financial aid no matter what income threshold their families come from. According to the tape "House Support for Senate Budget Unlikely" funding for schools were the center of contention between the two houses because the House wants to…

Yet nevertheless, this isn 't the kind of news Nevadans want to hear. And with the current debate over Core Curriculum, and the several education-related initiatives on this year 's 2016 ballot; the conversation over education has never been so relevant.…

Although many people believe that a person should have their high school diploma before he or she gets their driver's license, but I disagree because you can be sixteen to get your driver’s license and some people are eighteen before they get there high school diploma. I don’t think that you should have a high school diploma before you get your driver’s because when kids turn sixteen they want to start doing things for themselves, and they don’t want their parents driving them around when the 20 because they didn’t get their high school diploma. When you turn sixteen you want to go to your friends parties, and it would be embarrassing if you show up with your parents coming to drop you off and leaving, then when the party was over it might be one in the morning on a Sunday morning then you would have to wait for your parents to show and drive you back home.…
