The face of personal communication is changing. These changes refer to less face-to-face interaction. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, texting, and emailing are just a few examples of mediums that have diminished verbal communication. From just 20 years ago verbal communication has decreased dramatically. Most of the technology used today did not even exist 20 years ago. About 4.1 billion text messages are sent per day in the U.S. Sending messages through social media sites, such as Facebook, is also taking the place of verbal communication. Entertainment was curling up with a good book, knitting by the fire, listening to the radio, and playing Bridge. Kids even played outside. They would get exercise from running, walking, skating, and riding their bicycles. Sometimes people had to make their own entertainment. There was no such thing as cable television, boom boxes, or spore. Technology has provided us with even more creative ways to occupy our time.
