I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots. Are we beginning to depend too much on our computers, tablets, smartphones, and other technology? Not everyone uses technology, but more than half the United Stated depends on technology because it is used every day for multiple causes such as communication, education, work purposes, and entertainment. Therefore, we are beginning to depend too much on technology.
The face of personal communication is changing. These changes refer to less face-to-face interaction. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, texting, and emailing are just a few examples of mediums that have diminished verbal communication. From just 20 years ago verbal communication has decreased dramatically. Most of the technology used today did not even exist 20 years ago. About 4.1 billion text messages are sent per day in the U.S. Sending messages through social media sites, such as Facebook, is also taking the place of verbal communication. More than four billion messages are sent daily over Facebook. Then there is the rate of emails being sent per day in the U.S., making up a large portion of the way …show more content…
Entertainment was curling up with a good book, knitting by the fire, listening to the radio, and playing Bridge. Kids even played outside. They would get exercise from running, walking, skating, and riding their bicycles. Sometimes people had to make their own entertainment. There was no such thing as cable television, boom boxes, or spore. Technology has provided us with even more creative ways to occupy our time. We can play video games, competing with our friends and other gamers. Healthy amounts of game time can be beneficial to a child’s development. A study showed that playing video games can improve concentration, increase attention span, and provide affirmation, especially in children suffering
