Explain Why Their Hands Become Shriveled

Improved Essays
To boost interest in a subject, I as much as possible, try to relate what I teach to everyday situations. For example, in teaching the basic principle of osmosis to both science and non-science students, I relate the topic to why their hands appear shriveled when they hand-wash dishes for an adequate amount of time. In this exercise, students are able to understand the concept of their hands becoming shriveled as it relates to the transport of water from a hypotonic to a hypertonic environment through a semipermeable membrane (the skin).

Each year, members of the community gather at the HAPpy Museum, a night full of exhibits by Human Anatomy and Physiology (HAP) students. The exhibits show how beautiful and delicate the human body is. The students connected with prominent community figures, advertised the museum, and ran the event. Presenting and enriching the information changed me more than reading the information out of a textbook would have.…

On October 15th, 2015 Caitlin, Christy and I visited the Long Island Children Museum to learn more about fun activities to do with children for a science lesson. When we first got there and looked around the first floor we all looked at each other because we didn’t think we would find anything here that had to do with science. After walking around the first floor for a little bit, we realized there were two sections here that had to deal with science. The first section we realized was called Bubbles and we didn’t go in it right away because there were so many little children in there and we didn’t want to bother them. So, then we went to the second section on the first floor which was called the Tool Box.…

Creating Engaging Lessons To create lessons that are engaging, educators can use “hooks” to grab the student’s attention and keep them highly engaged throughout the class period. “Hooks” need to be introduced at the beginning of the lesson so students will become sold on the material right away. If not, students will become bored and that’s when educators start having discipline and behavior problems. “Hooks” need to be strong and should explain “what students are about to learn, why what they are about to learn is important, and how the learning will take place (the day’s agenda)”…
