Explain Why The School Board Plans To Add One And A Half Hours

Improved Essays
The school board plans to add one and a half hours to school each day. Do you agree or disagree with the school board extending the average school day? I have a mildly, strong disliking for this poorly and stupid thought out idea. The truth is school is already quite lengthy and it would be a dreadful idea to add more time. I would not be able to have anytime for the activities that I and many others do. Then, stress is another thing I need to worry about, because if I am stuck somewhere for nearly eight and a half hour would not only bring my stress, but also my anxiety. Then my stress will be off the charts crazy. This is a very poorly, expressed idea. The school hours are quite long anyway. Why would the school board want to add onto it?

School times can sometimes be absurdly early, but because of later start times some problems stir up. Later school start times can increase grades and the well being of the kids, but the downfall of that is that schools have to pay extra for more buses because usually a district only has a few busses, which then makes the school start times staggered. Although the wellbeing of kids is far more important. The idea of staggering school time is smart but if its hurting the health of people I would pay the extra money to keep kids safe. The first reason that school should start later is because it will allow kids to be more well rested and makes it easier to focus.…

She feels that it will, "Lower academic performances, hinder the quality of education for young students, and affect the lives of school faculty, staff, and parents"(Melicharek 96). I agree with Jaclyn that changing to a four-day school week is a bad idea. I feel it will cause the students physical, mental, and emotional pain, it will also cause parents many problems, and stop students from learning efficiently. Many students go through high school with little to no worries, and…

They wonder what later school end times would mean for sports and after-school activities, for example, and how much additional money districts would have to spend on transportation. Because many districts stagger their transportation in order to use the same buses for all of their students, pushing back middle and high-school start times could mean paying for more buses.…

Twelve schools in the county are thinking about changing to a year-round school schedule, I agree with them wanting the change it because it is a lot more beneficial to the students. The year round school schedule benefits students by (1)having more breaks, (2)less missed school, (3)and not forgetting crucial information during the long summer break. A benefit to the year round school schedule is that the students get more breaks. Since the students get more breaks, they have more opportunities for vacation. More vacations allow students to have more fun, and since they will be having more fun they will be happier students.…

If we were to ask today’s school kids what they would prefer I would guarantee they would agree with keeping today’s school schedule the same as it is. The very thought of sending children to school year-round makes some parents cringe. They dislike the idea of children attending schools with no summer break. They question the value of a continuous school year interspersed with many breaks. While the schedule is definitely not what the majority of parents grew up with, it’s not nearly as onerous as some people think.…

The Bigger Hassle Sleep, the one thing that everyone loves but can never seem to get enough of. No matter the age it seems like we are all zombies walking around. A recent study by the CDC says that teenagers need at least 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep a night, however due to the many things that consume the lives of teenagers a majority do not even come close to the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours (Richmond). Whether it be school, work, activities, social media, or texting there are many reasons that factor into teens not getting enough sleep. However, the recent blame has been put on the start time of schools as some students, parents, and administrators push for later school start times.…

People worldwide are concerned about schools starting too early in the day and have been debating about the benefits of later school start times. Every weekday, students must face the struggle of waking up early to get ready for school without getting enough sleep the night before. Schools starting at a later time during weekdays would allow students to have extra time to sleep in the morning and be more alert and focused. This can result in less sleep-related car accidents and tardies. It can also provide opportunities for students to succeed in school because studies show that alert students are more willing to study and understand concepts than if they were tired.…

Staying at school for an extra hour and an half is insane, we already get up early and they make us stay later, like people have things to do. I don’t agree with this because students get up super early, and after school programs would be pushed back farther into students time to do homework and makes a student's life stressful with trying to stay awake and keeping up with the lesson for the day. Younger kids get up super early in the morning, staying later will cause them to become less cooperative in class. It will cause students to be drained during the day because they do school work and other activities. Homework is a burden for students and making them stay at school for a longer time cuts there time to do homework, which, then also…

There are people that want school days to be shortened and others that want school days to be longer. I believe that the school days should be shorter because a large amount of time is wasted during study halls and when they are given in class time assignments.
