Why the ocean is salty

Forty million years ago there were two gods that were very thirsty. They created a planet with enough water for them. Today we know it as Earth. For five years, they were drinking the same water. Then one of the Gods didn’t want to share because he thought he was getting less water than the other God. He became so angry that he threw planets at the other God. The other God threw stars at the first God. They fought for two years. The thirsty God was so angry that he turned all the water into salt water. Now neither of the Gods could drink the water. They tried to create another planet with water, but they couldn’t. They tried looking for other planets with water. They found one in the Milky Way. They continue to

When algal blooms are prevalent in bodies of water, specifically bays, they can cause the nitrogen levels in the water to increase. When the nitrogen levels in the water are increased, this can lead to a number of detrimental health effects when consumed. In order to determine whether or not the salinity of the water in Barnegat Bay had an effect on the rate of the nitrogen levels increasing during an algal bloom, ten sample of water were collected and tested by adding the microalgae Nannochloropsis and recording the nitrate and nitrite levels every week. The sample of water varied in salinity, and two samples did not contain the algae to act as a control. The samples were exposed to a temperature of 22°C and were tested over the course of…

Hopkins doesn’t give the science behind this. The presence of salt makes it harder for the hydrogen and oxygen molecules to bond together. The salt molecules get in their way and drop the freezing point by a few degrees. The average freezing rate for an ocean is around 28-degrees. When the people died of hypothermia it was because they were standing in 28-degree water that was so close to freezing.…

Much of the world believes that God is nonexistent. Much of society deems the splendor and majesty of creation to be nothing more than a coincidence. In A Designed Universe, author Robert C. Newman, Ph.D., covers four topics: The Right Chemistry, The Right Environment, The Right Universe, and finally, Explaining the Design. In those four sections, Dr. Newman describes the perfection of God’s creation, and how life would not exist had it been created even slightly differently.…

This figure shows the data that the lab group on the first cruise recorded. This chart shows the salinity and temperature in the open ocean at different depths. On this cruise the data was recorded at a much deeper depth than on the second one because of the differences in depth between the two. As the conductivity, temperature, and density machine is lowered deeper into the water the more of a thermocline is available for us to see. Not only do we see a thermocline in the temperature on this chart but we also can see a similar one when looking at conductivity…

The chloride content of the water samples ranged between (70 mg/L – 180 mg/L). Chloride ions are not degraded in the environment and tend to remain in solution, once dissolved. Chloride ions that enter ground water can ultimately be expected to reach surface water and, therefore, influence aquatic environments and humans. The salts of calcium, sodium and potassium contribute chlorides in water (Khamabrade and Mule, 2005). S51 had the lowest concentration (70 mg/L) of chloride and S38 had highest content 180 mg/L of chloride salts.…
