One main reason that the government should not control school lunches is that it costs way too much money to serve only healthy foods. Many students will not eat the food, causing plate waste to skyrocket (Bakst). Many schools have also cut teachers’ paychecks, just to pay for these “healthy” lunches (Bakst). It costs too much money to provide enough storage and equipment for lunches, considering that the lunch ladies have to make enough for the entire school, instead of just enough for students who actually eat school lunch.
