Explain Why Some People Should Be Held Accountable For The Cost Of Life Essay

If you are in a life or death situation, you're obviously going to want to live and not die. Unfortunately, some people make bad decisions but some people happen to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time and that can cause the death or injury of someone that is trying to help them. People in life or death situations should be held accountable for the cost of their actions because it puts others lives at risk, people can be smarter about their choices, but it’s not always intentional. Not everyone agrees that people should pay for the costs of their rescue mission because “when people believe that they are going to receive a large bill for an SAR mission, they delay a call for help or they refuse to call for help” (“The Cost of Survival” paragraph 5) and that can make the situation worse. Many rescue workers have lost their own lives trying to save others who may or may not have purposely put themselves in bad situations. If people were more smart with their decisions they not only would save their own life but also the ones who are responsible for saving theirs; “the idea of holding people responsible is not to stop rescuing them. …show more content…
In “The Life of Pi”, Pi had to abandon his principles and “decided to try (his) hand at fishing, for the first time in (his) life” (“The Life of Pi” paragraph 2). Even though this went against what he believed in he made a quick-witted decision to do what took to survive. The most important thing to have in a survival situation is mental strength, Pi demonstrated having mental strength while stranded on a small boat in the middle of the ocean, he survived because he “couldn’t allow (himself) another mistake” (“The Life of Pi” paragraph 21).
