The ideology of prison is that it is created with the general purpose of making people better, morally and ethically, it was supposed to be the adult version of time out, take away someone’s freedom as a person for a while and hope that the same person would learn a lesson and change for the better. But in real life, people who get arrested for minor or not so major crimes gets locked up with the murderers and rapists. The convicted may not be such a bad person; he or she could have had a bad day and did some thoughtless regrettable things. If a person is prosecuted, found guilty, and sentenced to a certain amount of time in jail, they get a rather hateful mindset of what has happen and more or less plot their escape. This can be drawn to the Capote novel In Cold Blood which shows how Dick, an individual in jail, thought up a plot for murder while being locked up. Some argue that individuals might find jail as an enjoyable experience as they are confined together with like-minded individuals, but that only increases the chances of them committing more crimes as those people continue to treat crime as normal. The closed and confined atmosphere builds up hate in the human mind which is ultimately unleashed on the people who put him in there or individuals in life who they have simply held a grudge against. By giving these individuals a chance to right their wrong-doings through therapy it makes them feel that society is not against them and this love can translate into them having a better state of mind, because in many instances, people who commit crimes simply have not had the proper nurturing from the people around them.…

Not one person or offenders included, expects prison to be a paradise . Upon prison, all inmates must face the mental and physical challenge of adjusting to prison, and some fail or just barely pass the test. The ones that fail are usually the ones that die in prison by being assaulted or taking one’s life due to the fact that they can’t take the prison anymore and the ones that pass are usually the ones that move up on top of the food chain. For example the gang leaders in the prison and even those who join gangs just to feel protected. Including the ones that are close to the prison guards that pay them off to gain special privileges.…

I really enjoyed watching this documentary in class. A few years ago I watched a documentary Oprah produced called Serving Life. The story followed prisoners inside Louisiana’s maximum-security prison Angola, where the average sentence is more than 90 years. In the prison they have a hospice program where inmates get to take care of other dying inmates. The movie is moving and shows the personalities and human side of the men serving their time.…
