1. Discuss why sociologists do so much of their research outside the laboratory.
Science such as Biology and Chemistry confine their research to the laboratory. Sociology by definition is defined by the study of human behavior, social groups, and society (SOCI 200, pg. 6). Human behavior is a complex process that can’t be duplicated actually in the setting of the laboratory. Human behavior is, to a large extent, shaped by the groups to which people belong, by social interactions, and by the surrounding social and cultural context (SOCI 200, pg. 7). The physical sciences include chemistry, physics, astronomy, etc., they involve the aspects of the nonliving world (Basirico, Cashion, & Eshleman). Science is always changing and the process of discovering how the world works and build on principles, and from the study and investigation of the compelling and coherent frameworks of organized groups of human beings, the most complex of the hominids, it’s requires to get other expenses other than just text and lectures. Sociologists operate from a sociological perspective; consciously questioning the apparent of removing them from a familiar experience and looking at them objectively and critically. Sociology, like other social sciences, applies the scientific method to studying human behavior.
