A lot of minors have social media. This is good because it’s kind of a way of being social and to share your life with the world. However, they must know their boundaries and limits because if they mess it up it could get them into trouble, so that can be an effect of social media.

Minors should be allowed to have social media because it’s a good way to express and share to the world who you are. The argument the author, Alan Finder, is making on the topic of social media can be very controversial and broad. I disagree with the idea of students being fully judged by their social media accounts. Social media sites have created a virtual platform where people can express their true feelings, acknowledge the cool things they do, and post pictures of themselves or other things that help build their self-esteem. It can be considered a fun space for people of older age that has a useful blocking button to filter negativity. I tend to use only two social media sites consisting of Snapchat and Twitter where I post the cool things I’m doing or expressing my thoughts at the time to the people that follow me.…

I can say that almost every single teenager has at least one social media account. We can’t blame social media for everything wrong with kids today. In fact, social media is not the problem, it how they use it. Some teens will use it in a positive way, others will use it in a terrible way where, they bully other kids or start rumors about innocent people. Without doubt when kids start drama on social media, it’s usually for something petty.…

But is this really a problem? That all seems very dependent on how comfortable a person is with living ‘on the grid’— forever. Social media can in fact be a harsh platform that can stunt the creative growth of a minor due to criticism, and many may give up on their interests all together. However, it can also allow for genuine constructive criticism for artists (be they musicians, artists, or writers), and open the possibility of collaboration with others. Minors should be allowed to have social media accounts because it allows them to experience the platform so they can properly utilize it to pursue career interests. Minors can promote themselves and become known for work they want to pursue. Also, now a days kids rely on social media and use that as a platform to communicate with each other. When a minor you always get the short end of the stick. They’re already limited to do so many things due to their age. Also, under some circumstances they get treated differently, so why change that now? This is unfair, because they try to treat them as an adult when they clearly are still becoming one.…
