In this paper, I will evaluate the role of a Reading Specialist, and how they create a curriculum that anticipates a student’s reading level. Then, I will discuss how these standards coincide to my own beliefs. Finally, I will sum up the duties of a Reading Specialist, and how necessary they are in our education system. Reading Specialist/Literacy coach are professionals whose main duty is to provide educational reading services for students who attend public school. Reading Specialists provide reading programs, improve students reading performances, and write programs at school or at the district level.…
“Grades tend to reduce the quality of students’ thinking. They may skim books for what they’ll need to know. They’re less likely to wonder, say, “How can this be true?”” (Kohn, 2011) When book reports were given out, I thought I was so smart because I chose the book that didn’t have seven hundred pages.…

I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…
We live in a century where we go about our day without ever reflecting on our constant hard work. Society has trained us to believe that our mission in life is to simply seek the highest education possible to eventually obtain a good paying career. But, what we fail to appreciate is the basic concept of why education is truly important for the human race. Throughout our journey, subconsciously we tend to forget the basic educational principles that make us human with regards to seeking an education and that not many people are able to obtain a quality education. There is a fine line between being literate and being educated.…

In the essay "In Praise of the F word" from the book Models for Writers, Mary Sherry argues that failing or flunking students is a positive teaching tool. She poses a strong argument by saying that failing a student expresses the confidence that teachers and parents have on the ability of a student to pass the presented material. According to Sherry, passing students who have not mastered the presented material cheats both the student and the employers. At times, teachers and parents make it too easy for students to go through the education system by not making real their threats. In agreement with Sherry’s argument, I believe that the education system is not failing students as it is supposed to and this in turn undermines the educational, career and personal growth of students.…
INTRODUCTION Education is the essential foundation of an understudy's scholarly achievement. Without the ability of perusing, youngsters will in all likelihood have constrained scholarly, financial, social, and even passionate accomplishment in school and in later life (Pikulski, 2002). As indicated by the latest report from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 33% of U.S. understudies in primary schools read underneath the fundamental perusing level (NAEP, 2011). Along these lines, 33% of our understudies battle with proficiency and will probably keep on struggling as they get more seasoned.…
The Dreaded Reading Class It was the first day of third grade. I jumped out of my moms car after kissing her on the cheek and hearing the routine “have a good day”. Jordy, my sister, and I walked in together reminiscing the previous years at Rising Star. Everyone was dressed in their favorite outfit to impress all their friends. Jordy and I fashioned our Limited Too dresses and sparkly back packs.…

Kale Kimbrell ELA Mrs. King 18 March, 2016 Should students have letter grades? Letter grades should not be used to grade students in school. Because there here to learn, not to pass things.(In fact, they’re “relics from a less enlightened age,” says education expert Alfie Kohn, author of punished by rewards and schooling beyond measure and who (Time Magazine Cindy Long) (describes as “perhaps the country’s most outspoken critic of education’s fixation on grades and test scores.) “The research quite clearly shows that kids who are graded and have been encouraged to try to improve their grades tend to lose interest in the learning itself”.…

Just like learning to walk or ride a bike, learning to read is one of life’s milestones. However, unlike walking and biking, reading skills are not suddenly obtained and then static throughout life. After learning to read initially, an individual’s reading skills, interests, and purposes further develop and change throughout their life. Furthermore, the means by which an individual improves their reading capabilities change over time as well. In the same way, I initially improved my reading ability and changed my interests through the help of my parents, then later my teachers, and finally, in spite of a dark period of little improvement, through my own effort.…
