I would like to attend the College of Charleston and to major in business administration. I believe that I have the interest, personality, and drive to succeed in the business world with the knowledge I gain at the college. My goal is to obtain an undergraduate degree in business administration and then to go on to get my masters of business administration. I would then love to use my education to become a successful buyer for a retail store. Going to school in the heart of historic Charleston will allow me great opportunities as I work towards my goal.…
Growing up is was no question whether or not I was going to college, it was an automatic yes for me. No one had to ever ask me if I was going to college because they all knew that the answer is yes. The reason why I knew that I had to go to college was because everyone in my family went to college; now don’t just think that because everyone in my family went to college that we are a bunch of rich snobs. We have all been hit with the reality of struggles in life. That’s why I learned quickly that you don’t just go to college so you can get a better education you have to be able to do something with that education.…
I deserve to have the opportunity to have this scholarship because I have pushed myself over the limit to get as much college credits to graduate my senior year not only from high school with all the high school requirements but to have the privilege to graduate from Lenoir Community College with my Associates in Science Degree. To have taken continuing education classes to advance my knowledge about nursing, or be a Spanish interpreter and to even take another language course. I want to be able to achieve to the point of getting my masters and becoming a Radiologist specialized in ultrasound but also an interpreter in more languages other than Spanish but for American Sign Language (ASL) and once fluent in ASL then learn Spanish Sign Language.…
WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…
Personally paying my way through college is just the start of the many complexities I endure as a young adult. It’s mentally challenging to put aside the worry and stress of paying for my particular degree, all while wondering if I’ll even be able to have some saved up for my career after college. My major is Acting in the Bachelor of Fine Arts and that alone is quite a risky major within the college and out in the real world. It is a dream that guarantees less of a secure, consistent and long lasting career, but I truly love theatre with all my heart and those thoughts are the reason why I’m sharpening my skills at the University of Arizona. As of now, I am relying on multiple scholarships, some that support me for one school year in which regardless I am forever grateful and others that support me as long as I am reaccepted in to the acting program.…
You are a very hardworking and determined college athlete, but you come from a poor family. You were born in East St. Louis. The crime rate there is unimaginable and there is hardly any opportunity, but you were lucky enough to get a scholarship from the Ohio State University. You get a full ride scholarship that covers rooming and education. You finally get on campus and you realize that you don't have enough money to get food for yourself.…

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in funding the Doris Cohen/York Art Association Scholarship Endowment. I am very honored to be the recipient of this award. I am one of five siblings born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Both of my parents are originally from China and Hong Kong, starting a new life in the United States at a very young age. My parents experienced a lot of hardships and value of each of my siblings education, making sacrifices so that we could pursue our desired goals.…
Why do you want to serve? My parents grew up in an improvised rural village in China, I knew their importance of having their children find a worthy job, which is financially stable. My parents are very proud of my sister obtaining her medical degree. Then there was me, I got C’s and B’s in my first year in college and I had no direction in my life as a business major.…
MY JOURNEY Art has always been a passion of mine, but I tried to ignore my calling for a long time. Throughout my life different things have pulled me away from art, but art always finds it’s way back to me. As a young child, I spent my summers painting in the garage. I would go to Michael’s every weekend with my small allowance to buy small 6 by 10-inch canvases and cheap craft smart paint that cost less than a dollar.…
1. Pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts at the University of Pennsylvania would allow me the opportunity to work alongside professionals, involving me in important research of the socio-political concerns in the Middle East. The MLA program will provide me with an accommodating schedule to fulfill a degree that will integrate advanced Arabic language courses with political coursework on the Arab world. This, I believe, would be the ideal opportunity to further my passion for Arabic studies in the Ivy League. My recent experience studying Arabic on a David L. Boren Scholarship in Amman, Jordan, has allowed me to obtain an intense level of Arabic language proficiency, with experience integrating the language into both research and professional development.…
My journey starts in Rwanda, a small country in East Africa. It started after I excelled in the national examination, an exam for high school students pursuing college admission, and got rewarded a scholarship to study college in the US. The experience I gained throughout my scholarship period, research, and background inspired me to pursue graduate studies. This goal has been an important reason for both my education and life pathways.…
