Explain Why I Want To Be A Dental Hygienist

The role of a Dental hygienist and therapist is to treat and prevent the two most common dental diseases; periodontal disease and dental caries. They will perform non surgical preventative periodontal treatment and a variety of restorative and caries preventative treatment to both adults and children. It is a very competent high demanding role, which requires excellent dexterity and communication skills. I feel with confidence I would take on this role very suitably and make a trustworthy committed University Dental Student. I am inspired to create and maintain beautiful smiles, and make a positive difference to people’s lives and health. I am learning to balance family life, assignment deadlines and have also recently applied to voluntary work within south tees hospital to gain further experiences and skills. I have also booked onto various Discovery days, open evenings and public meetings to get a real taste of student life which I am very excited about. In my spare time I take an interest to keeping fit and healthy improving my mental and physical self, fashion is my hobby and socialising with friends. I try to organise my time wisely around being a mother which is my proudest achievement of all. I have learnt valuable lessons and knowledge from this which I’d use every day in my dental career, being able to work confidently with children as well as adults. I’d like to think I’d make a positive experience for others, contributing back to the NHS. I would describe myself as interpersonal; I look forward to meeting new people with similar interests and building relationships.
