Explain Why I Need A Scholarship

Decent Essays
I need this scholarship because even though I am an excellent student, a fantastic leader, and involved in school and outside, I have yet to earn any scholarships besides my Murray scholarship paying for 80% of my tuition. I've done the math, and I need approximately 10,000 more dollars in order to pay for my college experience, and that's a year. $40,000 for a college education; an education that is pretty much required in order to acquire a career.

My family may look on the surface as though we are making quite a bit of money, but if you split that between 4 kids, 2 adults, 2 dogs, and a cat, it's nothing. More is taken away by house payments and groceries and bill after bill. My family does not have the means to pay out of pocket for my education anymore than I do as a 17 year old student making minimum wage. I do not want to have to put my burden of my education costs on my family. As it makes me value things more, I am determined to pay for my own college experience, even if it means taking out student loans.

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

If I was awarded this scholarship it would greatly help me offset some of the costs of college. In order to pay for school I rely on student loans, and my dad takes money out of his retirement fund to pay for the remaining amount that I owe. It is difficult to ask my parents for money for tuition because I know my dad will be retiring soon, so every dollar he gives me results in him having to work longer before he can retire. If I was awarded this scholarship it would put a lot less stress on my family because they wouldn’t have come up with the money each semester. It would also result in me being able to pay my dad back much sooner so that he can retire.…
