Explain Why I Dislike Bassoons

Decent Essays
I dislike Bassoons One thing about bassoons is their chair straps, they are so weird. I especially dislike it when the will not stop adjusting their chair straps. Why cant they just use what bass clarinets use to keep up their instrument? This is very thrust rating me very much. I also dislike bassoons because some bassoons are taller than me! I also dislike how they use the same reed as the oboe. Doubled sided reeds should be for oboes and its hard to tell the difference. Only three time in my life I have been by a bassoon. twice at the Dubuque orchestra and at my 5th grade honor band. At the time I played clarinet. We sat next to each other. And he would always ask me to hold his spit covered reed when he adjusted his chair strap.

When people act obnoxious and disrespectful, I would just like to go up to them and say “I was at about six there. Don’t make me go to ten”, a quote said by Dale in Step Brothers. My pet peeves involve the disrespectful actions of high school students. It really irks me when people in band just don’t play their music correctly or march properly. If we have been practicing the same song for a short amount of time, then I understand if most don’t pick up the notes right away.…

One morning I was sitting in my English class when my teacher handed us a piece by Jerome Stern called “What They Learn in School”. I’m not a big reader so I wasn’t too thrilled about reading Stern’s poem. However, I did become curious once I read the first line. Stern began his poem by stating how “In the schools now, they want them to know all about marijuana, crack, heroin, and amphetamines, because then they won 't be interested in marijuana, crack, heroin, and amphetamines.”…

On February 11 at 10:30am, I attended Aggieland Saturday, an open house for prospective students, and observed the Aggie band play. The band played a total of 4 songs and the last song being the Aggie War Hymn. Unfortunately, the performance didn’t contain the entire aggie band as I expected, but rather members from all the necessary subgroups were present. The key instruments were aerophones, membranophones, and idiophone. The major aerophones consisted of: clarinets, piccolos, trumpets, trombones, and tubas; the membranophones were the drums and snares, which demonstrated indeterminate pitch.…

Most know Ronald Reagan best for his acting career and presidency, but not many look back to his past and sees how his leadership roles started early in life; which is where mine starts. Throughout my life, leadership has always been a part of me, I have always strained to help others and try to lead them the right way. Trying my hardest has helped me make a great impact to those around me by showing them what can be done. When I was in eighth grade, a new opportunity was given to my class to take a high school course early, and I decided to be one of the few to go through with it, knowing it would be a lot of work. I started thinking about how this could be a benefit to me.…

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

Music has played a gigantic role in defining who I am. When I was little I was always involved in music. Even if it was not me making the music, I was always bopping my head along or tapping my foot to the beat of the music. My parents were surprised to find out that I was the child that was fascinated by the marching band walking in the parade. I knew by a young age that I wanted to be in that band.…

I hate marching band. Leaving that trap of a class was the best decision I made in my entire high school experience. Once I had had enough of band, I joined theater. Joining theater fit my schedule well, introduced me to new people, and opened my mind to possibilities I hadn't considered before. The time I wasted in marching band was grueling.…

I've played the clarinet for seven years. When I first started playing the clarinet I was in the sixth grade I wasn't very good. In fact, the only reason I had joined the band was because my friends and I didn't get into the same elective; they'd been forced into band, while I was one of the lucky few who'd gotten into computer science. The thought of being separated from my friends did not sit well with sixth-grade me and that's why, at the beginning of sixth-grade, I found my self sitting in band holding a brand new clarinet. Anyways, sixth-grade flew.…

I understand that a reason flute teachers hesitate from encouraging their students to join marching band is that the student’s playing stance is improper. Teachers want their students to prepare correctly from an early age, adhering to proper technique. In particular, the flute, held parallel to the ground is unnatural as is the strained posture of head and feet facing north with arms pointing east (pulled to the right 90 degrees). Some marching flutists can be asked to pivot at the waist with their heads facing north, feet facing and walking west and arms staying due east. This stance is closer to contortionism than proper posture for breathing, moving and playing, and should be avoided (correct posture for the concert flutist is having the…

People and music are inseparable as Macdonald (2008, 39) argues that ‘We are all musical. Every human being has a biological, social and cultural guarantee of musicianship.’ It is hardly possible to live without hearing music in daily life, and people has been building musical identity since they are born by negotiating through it. Thus, music is a significant matter in personal identity and analysis of one’s life can reveal one’s musical identity. This essay will demonstrate the analysis of my musical identity based on my life.…
