Introduction

The use of social media forms has become increasingly popular over the recent years; as access to the Internet becomes easier on multiple devices (phones, laptops and tablets) more people are involved in multiple social networks.

For many the use of the Internet for entertainment formats (such as social media, YouTube, video streaming etc.) Has become a regular part of everyday life, as many young Australians spend hours online a day using a variety of different devices (such as computers, phones and/or tablets). However the increased use of social media and the Internet has a variety of effects on Australians – some long term and some short term.

As well communicating with others, particularly teenagers use of online games through social media commonly used for many Australians – Social networks (such as Facebook) allow individuals access to many online games, which they can compete with other individuals around the world.

Social media has a large range of uses and Australians find a variety of ways to use the different types of social media (Facebook, twitter etc.) in a number of different ways.
How to protect yourself on social media

As many people use social media as a way to connect with friends and individuals who share the same interests and hobbies with, you then risk of becoming involved in dangerous situations is heighted.

Many Australians want to believe that the person they have recently meet online who share similar interests as the individual are their friends. However; the ability to steal the photographs of others and pretend to be someone they are not is easy.
