L8r, G8r Banned or Not? The name of the book I have chosen is “L8r, G8r” by Lauren Myracle. The book is about three girls named Zoe, Maddie, and Angela. They are high school seniors dealing with the pressure of graduating high school together, and going their separate ways.…
I chose the book Fahrenheit 451 because I enjoyed the storyline, and I am most familiar with that popular banned book. Fahrenheit 451 was written by Ray Bradbury in October of 1953. There have been multiple complaints from various different schools and people about this book. One of the main reasons they banned this book, is for the multiple negative connotations and references to christianity. In the book, they use God’s name in vein, which was taken offense to by many different christian readers.…
Hopefully this paper doesn’t become censored or banned just like Fahrenheit 451. considering the fact we need to censor certain things and situations, doesn't mean we need to over do it and ruin certain things(thoughts or ideas) for people. Looking back on the history of Fahrenheit 451, it was very controversial for its content. People were becoming very easily offended by the language, the plot, and the character actions. Thus causing the book itself to be banned and censored.…
This means that not only can the words possibly offend other students, but it can lead to something worse such as physical fights. The use of profanity in the book encourages students to use this language in their life as well. As kids use this language, words can be heard. As these words are heard, people may take offense to the use of the language which may lead to deeper and more advanced problems within the student body. The book should be banned for this reason, because students should not be encouraged to use this type of language for the reason that there are many students that may not want to hear the language being used.…
Why Are Books Banned? Why are books banned? There are many banned and challenged books out there but why are they banned and is it for the right reasons? One banned book is the book Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark: More Tales to Chill Your Bones. There are a many reasons why this book is banned but I will tell you three.…
Books are challenged and banned for many reasons. One book that has been challenged many times is This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki. Although it does have some mature themes, it should not be banned due to the fact that many adolescents go through, or have gone through, similar things in their lives and it can help them see that other people understand what they are going through. Also it talks about the taboo topics we don’t talk about in society, or which could be important to their lives.…
Since then the book has variously been praised and denounced. Some call it the greatest book written in America. Others are calling for it to be removed from libraries and required reading lists in schools. Most of the objections revolve around the repetitive usage of the word "nigger". It was used an immense (219) number of times.…
The argument of whether or not banned books should be taught has been debated for years upon years. Why not provide a simple solution that allows each individual decide whether or not they are exposed to these “evil” banned books. This solutions involves creating an option for a class that’s curriculum is based on books that have been challenged or that are or have been banned. This class would still complete the mandatory state standards, which would make it comparable to a normal English class. This is a simple middle ground in which these banned books can still be taught with the lessened worry of offending students, parents, etc.…
For thousands of years, books have entertained and educated the masses. To ban a book is downright unjust in the way it forbids a person to communicate their thoughts, as well as restricts people from enjoying a piece of literature. Books as a whole are excellent teachers, and show another face to the world, and should not be banned. Moreover, the banning of books infringes on the freedom of speech and the freedom to read.…
Due to our own human nature, people learn the best through their experiences, both positive and negative. It is important for teenagers to understand the process of maturing, especially through how their actions can affect other people. A Separate Peace should not be banned and should be used in high school curriculums because it is a relatable story of young adults maturing through experiences.…
Book Banning is Misguided. Book banning refers to the restriction of access to a book through assertion of processes initiated by a ruling organization or individual. Targeted books mostly those in schools, libraries or book stores are challenged by individuals in any particular society due to kind of content illustrated in them. Generally, the content is normally categorized as immoral by the challengers who believe that the said content can pollute or adversely influence a young readers mind.…
I don’t think that this should be considered wrong ,no book should ever be banned. Authors write these types of books to express themselves and show how they feel or felt about some things that might've occurred to them in their…
Why Non-Fiction is better than Fiction “It ought to stand...as a permanent testament to human courage and transcendence.” And what a great story it tells. ” My book is Always Running and it is an autobiography by Luis Rodriguez. The book explains Luis’s past as a gang member in Los Angeles in the 1960’s.…
Books have been banned ever since they have been written. Many people believe some books should be banned and some believe they shouldn't. A book that has been banned is My Sister's Keeper. This novel was banned for its explicit language but also for its violence and its medical viewpoints. Although My Sister's Keeper exemplifies family, love, and sacrifice.…
When reading Fahrenheit 451 one might assume it is simply about burning books. After all, the title itself alludes to the fact that paper, ergo books, burn at that temperature, but that is far too facile an argument. To say that Fahrenheit 451 is only about burning books is the same as saying driving is simply about pressing ones foot on a pedal. Fahrenheit 451, for lack of a better word, is a tenebrous view of a future that has not only accepted censorship but has embraced it. In the book, society, with few exceptions, has willingly given up many of its freedoms, simply so no one has to feel bad.…
