What writing means to me and why I prefer to shy away from it, until now.
Being an Adult Learner, having been out of school for more than 30 years my weaknesses outweigh my strengths. My greatest weakness in writing, I would have to say is my spelling and use of grammar. I have recently been diagnosed with a slight learning disability which explains my problems with spelling and grammar. Having 4 children who I am very close too helps alleviate a huge portion of my inhibitions about writing, that combined with the newer technologies of programs like MS Word and other programs like it that have spell and grammar check help me in my daily writing needs.

My strongest ranking strength is empathy, which is the ability to “sense the emotions of those around you (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006, p. 46). I have used empathy a lot throughout my life by listening to others and by imagining myself in their situation. Over the years, I 've had coworkers confide in me problematic details about their lives. Being able to relate to what they were going through or how they were feeling, created some strong, lasting, friendships.…

However, the main point is colleges should produce writers who can actually use writing as a source for their future jobs and the questions is how can they do that? For example, I want to major in biology. Even though I major in biology, writing would be important to become more successful in my future career. One good way would be giving students an assignment where they require them to write papers on subjects of their choice that have something to do with biology.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

I believe that strong communication skills can get you anything and anywhere. Communication is how we learn new things about one another. Without communication between people, nothing would get accomplished, and we would all be lost. Another one of my strengths was empathy. I struggle with many aspects of writing but the satisfaction it creates makes up for it. It feels pretty nice when you finish a large piece of writing. I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

In my few years learning intense reading and writing, I feel that this English 101 course will help me expand my skills. I hope to gain some good attributes for my writing and reading abilities. A few attributes I hope to learn are: composing more professional documents, writing a paper that will convey my whole idea, and how to purposely use imagining purposes to my full advantage to gain better attention from my audience as Sarah R. Stein mentions page five in the DK Handbook (2013). By working hard on these abilities, I can foresee how my end product will develop into a higher intense writing. As I browsed the DK Handbook my first impression of this course was the same as a high school class I took.…
