What a veteran means to me. The dictionary definition of a veteran is, a person who has has long experience in a particular field of the military, or a person who has served in the military. Federally, a veteran is someone who has served in ANY war, in ANY branch of military for ANY length of time. If you served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps or Navy you are considered a veteran. I believe that someone who can fight for strangers , people they don't even know, along with their own family even if they only served for a week, a year, twelve years, deserves more respect than anyone. I feel that the U.S is very respectful of their veterans. Allowing any veteran who dies on active duty to be buried in a federal cemetery for veterans, along with any veteran discharged for any reason except when discharged for a considerable act of dishonor, breaking a rule. Each male, when they reach the age of 18, can enlist in the army. Veterans have to be skilled mentally and physically. I feel children should have a day to, at the least, study or look up things about veterans. Talking to a veteran, past or present, is also a good thing to do for veterans day. Veterans have many stories that would be extremely educational for younger and older children and even adults. All the stories they could share with you about their experience on the battlefield or even in the reserve or camps on the battlefield. Learning about these experiences will not only shape you mentally/intelligently, but it will also shape you emotionally. Hearing the heart wrenching stories about wars and battles. Even how they were treated when in service. You could also take them out for a fun little trip. On veterans day visit a VA hospital/nursing home. nIt is only right to try to respect our
