Explain What A Black Belt Oath Means To Be A Role Model

Decent Essays
To me the black belt oath means to be a role model. Younger people and lower belts might want to look up to you. Therefor you need to train hard, be nice and encouraging, and always do your best. If you do not train hard or do your best, you will never get better. Think of it as if you took a line and on the right side it said “the best” and on the left side it said the worst. You would probably be right in the middle and never move up to a higher level. No one will ever look up to you if you're rude and not nice. If I say “ wow you did an amazing job today how did you think of your fight?!” vs “good job”, which one would you like to get told? I would like the first one better. Although there both nice, one’s more encouraging. In addition

A renowned quote by David Bly states, “your children will become what you are. So be what you want them to be.” Being a mother generated an undeniable urge, and willpower to transmute into a person that I decree to be commendable enough for my son to regard as a role model. Currently, my three-year-old son calls me and perceives me as Wonder Woman. However, when he grows up I am determined to have earned that entitlement.…

Just like anything else in life, different things have different meanings to different people. The election of President Obama as a positive Black role model shows young black males that with hard work and dedication, they too can be successful. The great thing about this is that, little Black boys can grow up knowing that there is (and in a few months was) a Black president. This is the highest possible office to be held in the United States. Those that are over the age of 65 are fortunate to have lived long enough to see this fact materialize.…

Honor is not a tangible thing that we can pin to our lapel, nor a stole to be drape around our necks, it is much more important than that. In Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Just before battle Henry’s friend Falstaff mocked the pursuit of honor. “What is honor? A word. What is in that word “honor”?…

As an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, I have the opportunity to work with youth and help to develop social, technical, and leadership skills. Over the summer of 2106, I had the privilege to serve as a STEM instructor for our local Cub Scout Resident Camp. There, I taught cub scouts about advanced subjects such as forces, robotics, and engineering which inspired them to consider careers in the STEM field. In addition to acting as an instructor, my position as Song Crew Leader put me in front of the 150+ youth in attendance allowing me to serve as a role model for the cub scouts. The opportunity to talk with youth and adults alike allowed me to share my own knowledge and experiences while being able to learn about their own experiences…

Using the Servant Leadership Theory does have its downsides, unfortunately. One issue is that other leaders utilizing other leadership techniques could see the Servant Leadership methods as weak. One of the biggest issues with Servant Leadership Theory is that the leader is constantly sharing things as opposed to keeping thigs like information and power to themselves (Daft, 2014). This leadership style could make other leaders underestimate the power that a leader using the Servant Leadership Theory maintains. I know particularly in the Office of the District Attorney where I currently work, other departments are predominantly male-run, by men who have no qualms giving orders.…

The idea that the black American and African American communities are dependent on a single leader is one that has existed since the era of slavery and persists in our modern era. Essential writings by black American leaders in the history of the United States all have differing opinions on which qualities shape a successful leader for the black American and African American communities. Focusing on the ideas and opinions of W.E.B. Du Bois, Booker T. Washington, and Ida B. Wells, who strongly believe that in order to “uplift the black masses,” there is a need for a strong leader, and views of what shape that strong leader range from striving for a formal education and political rights to sacrificing these rights to receive other types of care.…

Though this quarter’s Legacy Project, not only have I unveiled the tortured past of a beloved relative, but I also was able to take what I have learned and put it into a media where her story – her voice – can be heard. I am now here before you to stress a topic that I find crucial in the path to adulthood: role models. Parents, teachers, celebrities, other close relatives; whomever they may be, everyone has a person who they look up to and/or shape themselves after. I am not simply implying that a mentor will help you maneuver through the dense maze of life; I am implying that they will pave the way for you, setting down the foundation where you can continue to build upon as you grow. They play a bigger factor in our lives than most people realize and the interview I conducted with my aunty helped me to be able to see their significance.…

I would say that achieving the level of black belt is liberating in a way, because not only is it a regression to the basics, it removes the material aspect of the game. Learning karate transcends from a race to the next colour, to an intimate experience of the self. This is something I experienced when I got my black belt three years ago. I feel like at that point, learning Kata was not a step towards getting my next belt; it was learning kata for the sake of learning it. Rather than extrinsically enjoying learning, which involves enjoying the end goal of an action, it became intrinsic enjoyment, which is the enjoyment of the action…

In order to understand and accurately analyze how directors illustrate honor in Chinese martial arts film, it is imperative that we understand honor’s origin, meaning, and modern connotation. Historically, honor has been an incredibly intricate and important concept in Chinese martial arts and it has its roots in some of China’s most revered philosophers. Honor in martial arts has evolved from two primary philosophies; loyalty and universal love. Loyalty is the sense of devotion to a group i.e. family, temple, or even gang and its teachings in China can be traced as far back as 551 BC with Confucius. The notion of universal love is slightly more complicated and can be considered an extension of loyalty.…
