Example: Michael is well known among the prisoners as he had escaped from prison before, that when he came up with a plan the prisoners believed they had a chance to escape with him. Now Michael is about to escape when he realizes there are too many security guards and that eventually only one person will make it out, which made the prisoners lose hope.
Application:
Michel the sender creates the standard of being able to escape from prison.
The prisoners who are the receivers buy into the standard of having the chance of escaping.
Expectations of escaping are created with the receivers who are the prisoners.

He believes that Michael might say that in reality he killed the Deputy Director of the CIA and that he set Michael up to make it seem that he killed the director. In order for him to stay out of trouble, Jacob continues to try and outsmart Michael as he threatens him that he will kill his son is he tries to escape from prison.
Application:
Jacob the sender knowing that Michael the receiver will do anything for the safety of his family uses his son to manipulate Michael the receiver into not escaping from prison.
