Describe the shift in providing social services The shift in providing social services started in the 1960s and 1970s, when most of the nonprofit agencies became agents of the government with the expansion of the American welfare state (Daly, 2009). Although this was a well-kept secret this shift in government contracting of social services moved it from the outer margins to the center of the welfare policy and federal welfare spending (Daly, 2009). This caused a clear structural pattern in policy history, which is recognizable in two basic phases (Daly, 2009). The first one being that the modern American social safety net was founded on “ant subsidy” principles, which separated public and private functions in such a way that it largely insulted faith-based social services from church-state requirements attached to the public purse (Daly, 2009).…

Social services should be cut regardless of the status of our national debt. Social services are a form of socialism, are inefficient, and are one of the many ways in which the government massively oversteps it's jurisdictions. Even if our debt was $0.00, government provided social services should be completely deleted, permanently. Although many try to deny the facts, some left-wing politicians have admitted that social services constitute a form of socialism, and are a stepping stone to complete socialism.…

This class has been a great experience for me and the most important thing that I learned in class came from the young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood interviews. Linking the interviews with the person I interviewed with the theories related to that age had help me become aware of how I will use these theories in practicing social work in all areas. Now that I am aware of the theories I seek out the person I am working with the past history of their life from childhood to now. Each human experience is different and important to know when working with an individual. For example, in the middle adulthood interview, Shawn had a good relationship with his children that were very important to him.…

I believe the role of a Social Worker in the Legislative process is to seek change to Social Policies, to prevent and change social problems in vulnerable populations. Social workers also advocate change to improve current policies, rules, and budgets for those who are powerless and are not able to speak up for themselves. By doing this social workers will ensure that resources are equally distributed to communities that are most in need. I believe social workers have many professional roles such as, brokers, enablers, mediators, and facilitators. As a broker social workers will help clients with referrals so they are able to receive resources and they will also follow up with these clients to make sure those resources were received.…
