The Land Grant College Act was signed on July 2, 1862 by President Lincoln began a new era in agriculture(Campbell, pg 3). From the Land Grant College Act it produced four significant acts that have affected agriculture history.
The first of these acts was the Morrill Act of 1862 that proposed a portion of federally owned land be sold and the proceeds used to establish at least one college in each state(Campbell, pg 3). These colleges were to be used to teach branches of learning related to agricultural and mechanical arts. Teaching agriculture although was very hard to do because of the inadequate supplies of textbooks, data, research, and other reading materials. This act was also meant to include
