Explain The Four Contextual Factors

A3 The four contextual factors that I have decided to write about are age, language, special needs and learning styles and modalities. The first I will talk about is age. When designing a lesson plan I will need to take into consideration the age of my students. The lessons and assessments need to be designed for students in the 3rd grade who are eight, turning nine. I will need to develop lessons using skills appropriate to the development of eight year olds. I will need to consider how long eight year olds can sit and listen, if eight year olds have the skills to do what is being asked, and if they can understand the vocabulary being used. When I develop lesson plans and assessments I will need to know if any of my students are English language learners or struggle with language development. When I develop lessons I will plan to take the time to explain any new vocabulary. I will need to provide my students with practice in using the new vocabulary. I will provide the students with vocabulary cards and have the student write the definition on the back and also write the word in a sentence to help them understand. This is especially important for my students who are English language learners. I will need to be consistent in using the correct academic language for the different subjects. Academic language is used across the grades and builds each year. I will need to continue this in my third grade class. Academic language needs to be used from the beginning. This will help my language learning student and all my other students learn and remember information. My students need to see it, hear it and read it to build their language skills. I will need to make sure that the language is consistent through out all my lessons and assessments.
