Explain The Entitlement And Provision For Early Years

The entitlement and provision for early year’s education changed when the Child Care Act 2006 came into effect. All children aged between 3 and 4 are entitled to up to 15 hours per week of free education, following the Early Years Education. If a parent wants their child to have more than 15 hours per week, then they do have to pay for any additional hours that they require. The Government funds the Local Authority to provide up to 2 years worth of education before a child starts at school. The children’s education begins with them learning things through play, which is a gentle transition for them to follow. I know from experience with my own child, how using books to read can help them to start to learn how to count and to recognise numbers and letters. The government has recently amended the school leaving age to 18 to encourage continued education and to reduce the unemployment rates. Pupils are able to leave school at 16 if they have a work based learning position to go to. This is normally by way of an apprenticeship with a company. By doing this the individual will benefit from on the job experience along with structured training normally at a college or institution. Other pupils may decide to stay on at school and move into the sixth form. This is an institution whereby they can continue with their studies in order to gain more qualifications (normally A levels) to enable them to apply for places at universities.
