The components of fitness are defined as the constituents that make up one’s physical fitness or his or her ability to function effectively at physical activity. Physical fitness is helpful in many aspects and is something anyone can achieve. The four most basic components of fitness are Cardiorespiratory Endurance (CR), Muscular Strength and Endurance, Flexibility, and Body Composition.
Cardiorespiratory endurance is the ability of the heart to provide oxygen to the body. This is a highly necessary ability to maintain because without proper cardiorespiratory endurance, insufficient amounts of oxygen will be sent to the body which can in turn lead to several life threatening diseases. This is defined as the power that a muscle group can exert and the ability to repeat muscle movements. The main benefit of muscular strength and endurance is a decreased risk of chronic injuries and the ability to complete certain tasks in daily life. One can improve muscular strength and endurance by performing weight training activities such as lifting weights or bench pressing. This can be incorporated into a summer workout routine by performing weight training exercises at a gym or at home with the help of a spotter if heavy weights are in use. When incorporating weight training into a workout routine it is crucial to include rest days to allow muscles to rebuild. This component of fitness falls hand in hand with the third component of fitness, flexibility. Flexibility is the range of movement of muscles and joints. Flexibility is important for the same reason as muscular endurance and strength, it prevents chronic muscle disease and allows for ease in daily life. Though flexibility varies for each individual, it can be improved by stretching exercises, climbing and certain aerobic exercises. Flexibility training often already occurs in a typical workout routine when one stretches before exercising and while one is running to improve cardiorespiratory
