Confucius introduced the idea that virtue is what made a man a valuable part of society. He strived to promote advancement in society he believed knowledge was the key to leadership within the bureaucracy and not the luck of being born into power. Confucius taught during a period when China was divided into many corrupted governments. His teachings dealt mainly with personal and political morality.
