The basic social structure in Greek society was mainly broken up by two groups, free people and slaves. The slaves were used as servants, but worked closely with their master. Even though they worked closely with their masters, they still didn't get paid nor did they have legal rights. Slaves could either be prisoners from war, or they could be bought from foreign slave traders. Buying a slave was easy and if you couldn’t afford one, people in greece would kidnap them. Another way people got their slaves was if someone owed you money, they would have the person who owed you money or a family member be their slave till the debt is payed off.
