Past experiences are truly bound to elicit future endeavors. This is true because, the petrifying lifestyle I experienced as a youngster growing up in Haiti was far from the ordinary. Although the terror is heart wrenching, it is what helped shape my present day aspirations. I was a six year old child amongst a very crucial world. I lived everyday not knowing if I would see a new day.…
As a college student, I can say coming to school has given me many tools I can apply in the everyday life. It has given me the knowledge required when I have needed it to reference back to any specific moment or time. However, I have also dedicated as much time as possible to those people that have supported me throughout my education. Despite my parents not having any formal education, they have always supported me every time, my inner circle of friends for pushing me to keep trying harder and for that I am thankful. To appreciate their support, when I have graduated, I like to go out and enjoy with them many beautiful places this great state has to offer.…
Cover Letter Through my essay, I evaluate Lynn O’Shaughnessy’s article titled “8 Reasons Not to Get a Business Degree”. Although she gives eight reasons, some were very similar or relatable, and all were relatively short, so I combined them when making my counterarguments and establishing my position. Many of her statements were backed up with weak, or even falsely represented data, so I used reliable sources with effective statistics and facts to support my counterargument and establish new points. When completing this assignment, I came across a few constraints that made my research slightly more difficult.…
Time management would be one of the challenges that I will need to address. I am fortunate to have the support of family and friends. I will find a balance which will allow me to advance my career and spend quality time with family. I am fortunate that my institution provides for tuition fee reimbursement, so finances will be less of a…
Purpose of a College Education Enrolling in college was not a decision that I took lightly, but is one of the most important decisions I have ever had to make. Taking college classes and working towards a degree is something I want to achieve. Attending college was a heated and an important part of my divorce decree. Recognizing the privilege that I have of being able to continue learning, achieving and stretching my limits is appreciated. Because of the fortunate circumstances that I have, to live in a country where I can attend college and have the same chance at success that everyone else has been one reason I enrolled in college.…
“Deeper Into my Life” Individuals are unique in their own ways and one of mine happens to be my name, Darrnyejah Bolds. Everywhere I go people have a hard time pronouncing it. Many people have given up and just refer to me as “Ms. Bolds,” but also I have two nicknames “Nye”, and “Nyejah,” which is mostly used by family and friends. Over the years, I have adjusted to my nicknames and became very comfortable with them. I entered this world on February 27, 1997 with the zodiac sign of Pisces.…
When you run into one of your former students who is successfully earning their degree you get an amazing feeling that you have made a true difference in their life. This has happened with several of my past students over the years, including my “at-risk” students who were labeled as such for fear that they would not graduate—to help them overcome all odds and do exactly that is what makes teaching so fulfilling. When I resided in Turkey in the third grade, as a military child, my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a teacher just like him. Dr. Mossburg, who is now the Chief of Curriculum for DoDEA’s Education Division, made learning fun and exciting.…
Things were never to easy for my family. Although my mother was gorgeous, giving and loving, she suffered from severe mental illness and comited suicide when my twin and I were simply sixteen. Ever since that day, my life spiralled out of control. Not only did I have two children directly after, but I eventually went on to become a drug addict and alcoholic. Six years ago, at the age of 24, I decided to go to rehab and I began writing all of the time.…
At this time, I am contemplating on continuing my education after graduation and obtaining my Masters in Nursing. In addition to working at the hospital I enjoy mentoring and training new staff. Recently an instructor from Rasmussen College in St. Cloud encouraged me to apply as an RN Instructor. Barriers to me obtaining my Masters Degree, vary from continuing education burnout, I don’t want to take a statistics class, write a thesis, and the added expenses of tuition.…
People who face hard times often find courage and determination in order to overcome their problems. The courage and determination that people find is often something they never thought they had and are taken by surprise when they come across it. If you have the right approach on difficult times, you can use them as a chance to grow as a person, as Malcolm X and Frederick Douglass did in their narratives. “Coming to an Awareness of Language” and “Learning to Read Write” tell the story of Malcolm X’s and Frederick Douglass’s struggles through challenges and how they used their own determination to achieve goals. In Malcolm X’s “Coming to an Awareness of Language” he narrates his experiences with language and how he broadened what he knew in…
As a second semester senior, I am preparing for graduation. With this preparation, I'm exploring options for post-graduation. This could include various directions such as employment, travel, or even graduate school. For my self personally I am pursuing graduate school. This comes with momentous stress as I comply applications, conduct interviews and gather information about making the right decision for my future.…
One major academic challenge I endured, came in high school. I attended a preparatory school in Burlington Vermont, causing me to leave my home and family at the age of 16. Pursing a hockey career was my focus while attending high school, and my grades reflected that. Now, with hockey no longer in the picture, my academics have positively changed for the better. One can see the contrast when looking at my high school, and college transcripts.…
The decision to go to college was something I had struggled with for a while. I had never liked school and made it very clear to anyone who would listen that I didn’t. But after many years of struggling to get by at factory and retail store jobs; I knew that I had to do something else with my life. I had attempted college once and had to leave due to a family members’ health, but through that I found out what I would like to do with my life. I graduated at the top of my class from high school in 2000. I then met my husband and married in 2002. We got him through medical school and residency and now he is working steadily and securely. While in his residency, I received my associate’s degree from Laramie County Community College and intended to finish my bachelor’s when we relocated to Washington. But by that time I had two young children and a new house.…
