Explain How To Promote Positive Relationships With Families

To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I maintain an open and friendly relationship with the families of the children in my care. I start by welcoming the child in the classroom, and asking the parents how they are, and how their child is doing so far today. I make sure to check on the child, and family members when the child has been out of school. I tell the families everything that happens during the day by mouth, and by sending home a daily sheet. That would include diaper changes, bowel movements, food intake, and any other concerns I may have through the day. I am available to tell them anything that may have happened during the day; and, I remain open to hear any comments that they have on the child, the school day, or my efforts as an educator. Sometimes it is difficult to make things work with everyone’s schedules, and to get all the necessary paperwork home, but I make sure to cooperate with every family. I make sure the family of the children in my care know they can come in whenever they would like, and help in snack time, circle time or learning centers. I involve the parents in their child’s day by informing them of routines that we have, toilet time habits, and the good things that their child did during the day. I also like to have the parents/caregivers at school on any special holiday of the year to join the celebration, and to join us on their child’s birthday if they would like to. To involve the community, I have special guest speakers, and entertainers to come in during community helper’s week, summer fun week and culture week to speak to, and have fun with the children.
