I grew up with my parents Pedro and Elica and my siblings Mike, Philip,John,Pam in Tucson,Arizona. I was very fortunate to live in a good neighborhood and have bikes/cars growing up. I grew up not having to chores, so i was always reading or swimming in the pool. I went to St. John's Grade 1-8 from my early years of school. When my brother had just started school he was always afraid, so I was called out of class…
Tell me about your life growing up? How do you feel about what brought you here today? What are some of your concerns?…
If I must start anywhere with my story; with who I am, my dad’s imprisonment is where I’d start. His incarceration is the catalyst to what changed my entire life completely. As a result of his imprisonment, my parents separated and I was forced to live with my grandmother. In a sense, I nevermore visited my dad and I barely spent time with my mother because she worked late. It was difficult to remain focus in school when every night you wonder why your father is never around and every morning you hold 5-second meetings with your mother on your way to school.…
The neighborhood I grew up in you see homeless people on the street asking for change, mothers shedding tears over the lost of their children, children wearing the same clothes due to their family income, and teenagers hanging in the streets late at night. Living in this environment influenced me to become the person I am today. Hard working, tenacious, and humble.…
PROMPT: What was the environment in which you were raised? Describe your family, home, neighborhood, or community, and explain how it has shaped you as a person. “What do you want to do when you grow up?” “I want to do homework,” said my four year old self.…
The terms previously talked about are a sensitive topic for many people. Calling someone privilege may offend certain individuals, they might feel as if one is accusing them of not earning their accomplishments. However, that is not the case. Many people are naturally born into a privileged life. Race, gender, and location highly effect these things.…
I interviewed four elders in three different locations. Two elders were interviewed in their apartments in Kearney Palms apartments in Kerman California. The other elder was interview in Autumn Ridge at Kerman CA, and the fourth elder was interview by phone. My interview started with question number one, Please tell me about your childhood, family and school life.…
As a 10 year old girl, it was hard to understand why we were always moving around. My father was a hard working man, but just couldn't find work that lasted. We moved from state to state, from Virginia to Pennsylvania, and then eventually to Ivory line, in southern Connecticut. I’ve never seen my parents as happy as when we moved into our old country house that we picked up for cheap. My father finally found a job as a construction worker.…
In my lifetime, I have had to overcome many obstacles when it came to playing chess, such as trying to beat an opponent whose rating was a thousand plus points higher than mines, or trying to think of a winning move when I only had ten seconds left on the clock. However, none of those obstacles could compare to the greatest struggle I had faced: growing up financially disadvantaged. Money does not buy happiness, but it does help you sustain a comfortable living. Throughout my entire childhood, my family struggled when is came obtaining finance. My mother was a single mom and a college dropout trying to raise three children, so it was very challenging for her.…
It is said that a dog is a man’s best friend, but if dogs have claimed that title what is left for cats? I would agree with this statement of a dog’s profound loyalty to man if it weren’t for a little black cat that came into my life at just the right moment. The bond between me and my cat was one of the only reasons I was able to get through a very rough patch in my life. It was the summer of 2014 and things just weren’t going right for my family.…
The most fascinating thing about the human race is that each of us are capable of complex thought. The one thing that all of us have in common is the relevancy our family, biological relation, or not, has in shaping who we are as individual people. My family of origin has played a role in molding who I am today, and who I am working towards to becoming. I was born on the Fourth of July at Edwards Air Force Base, located in California. I define family as being my immediate family, plus a couple of others who have been just as big of a part of my life; When I was growing up my family consisted of my mom, dad, younger brother, and I.…
My family resides mainly based on the terminology of anthropology, an Eskimo family or kinship. As stated that an Eskimo kinship is more common in the Western societies such as Europe and North America. Ironically, all of my family members are part of their own nuclear family, or when a married couple that has kids of their own, are known to the rest of society or their community as a basic social unit. An Eskimo kinship system is based on the distance from one relative to another such as; your grandpa is the father of your father. Nuclear families are mainly emphasized in an Eskimo kinship more than other dictation of kinship in Anthropology.…
My memoir is going to be about a very personal story dealing with my mother. She very smart and independent and has made very proud over the years but she has also had her weak moments. My mom had illness where it was causing her to lose weight and also lose sleep because she was dealing with marriage problems. My mom basically went from 129 pounds to 100 pounds within two or three weeks after being diagnosed.…
My Parents’ Philosophy My parents both were type-A parents from the beginning they both liked things their way. Often resulting in one parent just doing everything themselves, authoritarian is a style of parenting they tried to instill when I was younger, but quickly realized this would be like drilling even more holes into a sinking ship. When I was around five years old I saw a huge shift in my home, my dad became activated in the military and had to move to do his job.…
I would like to explore how society, at the micro, middle, and macro levels helped shaped me into a productive member. Each level has had a significant impact on my life and how I have responded to certain situations and issues. I believe the way you act in society is a reflection of how you see yourself. Since I can remember, I was always treated the same as every other child, at least by my family members. At gift…
