During Gore’s time as vice president, he got to experience opportunities such as meeting foreign statesmen and getting to know what it was like to be the highest level of government. Gore’s opportunity to meet foreign statesmen while serving as vice president allowed him to make himself known past America. Gore got to see what it was like as the highest person in government and how it worked. He used this to give him knowledge of what it would be like if he got elected president. Gore used his opportunities to help him in the future. Although Gore was still serving as vice president under President Bill Clinton during his campaign he decided that he needed to distance himself from him. Gore needed to distance himself due to decisions that Clinton made. He distanced himself from Clinton because his decisions might be seen as a liability to him in the upcoming election. Bush was elected as the 43rd president of the United States. He was elected when he won the electoral votes. Although Bush did not win popular votes he did win the electoral votes which were the important part. Al Gore won the popular vote but these votes did not ultimately matter (George). Things that helped George W. Bush win were the promises he made based on current issues in the United States, and the votes that Ralph Nader took away from Al Gore. After Bush was elected for president he did not follow through and fulfill his promises.
