How community service has affected me
Community service has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Volunteering and being asked to perform in musicals and plays at our local theatres has been a fantastic experience for me that I hope I’ll be able to continue my whole life in every city that I land throughout my journey. Through acting and dancing we inspire children and adults alike to live their dream and even soften a few hearts if we can. I’ve watched lives change in just a matter of minutes; even if it’s just one child shouting “Mommy I want to be a performer one day!” at the top of their lungs after watching a performance. It gives me the strength to keep working hard when I know that I can change someone’s

Community service is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I myself had an internal groan when I heard that community service was required and would be set as a grade. I had only known volunteerism as doing a dull boring task with no discernible reward. But after experiencing it for myself I found it quite the contrary. Volunteering is a way to meet new people and witness a group working toward a greater cause.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

A time in my life that has abundantly affected the way I see myself, community and world is when I volunteered at a soup kitchen or a program known as 'Bread of Life'. Helping people made me realize that it's a good intention. Volunteering makes you feel proud of yourself. When I was volunteering I made food, helped out in the kitchen and helped clean. Knowing that people who needed food was getting the nutrients and the people were getting fed made me see that helping out can be a huge impact.…

After I saw what a difference I could make by just simply helping my community through the school, I decided to do some community service on my own. Following my trade area I went on to volunteer at Lawrence General Hospital. Throughout my time there, my eyes were opened even more as to what a change one can simply make by dedicating one's time to others.…

Community service is way that people can build character and make the lives of people around them better. When you are volunteer your mindset changes from what can I do for myself to how can I help others around me. When you start helping people you feel pride that you were able to do something for the people around you. It opens your lens about the world around you, about how everyone is not as fortunate and well off as you are.…

I started building my foundation for community service back in fifth grade with Girl Scouts. My troop volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, read to kindergartners, and organized food at the food pantry. I continued these acts all the way up through eighth grade. In high school, I joined Key Club, where I sold flowers for powder puff, volunteered at my elementary school’s Trunk or Treat, and helped with the book and coat drive. Outside of school, I continued serving in my church through events like VBS.…

Many of the organizations that I am involved in, including FFA, 4-H, and LYO, take part in several service projects throughout the year. As a result, I have been involved in multiple community service activities over the course of my high school career, such as taking a week-long mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee this past summer, or just spending an evening during the holiday season Christmas caroling around town. Although some people aren't always willing to give up their time to help others, I believe that an essential aspect of being a member of a community is being willing and able to devote your time to helping others. It helps you develop positive relationships, and it lets the people you're helping know that there are places they can turn to for support. It helps you build up your responsibility, reliability, and work ethic, and it provides community members with a chance to establish lasting connections with one another.…
