Procedure
We downloaded a game called “Flappy Bird” onto our cellular devices in order to perform the experiment. Our professor randomly selected 4 participants at a time to participate in our experiment. Each group of 4 participants performed the experiment in a group setting that ran approximately 5 minutes for each group, a total of 20 minutes all together. There were a total of 4 groups in our experiment; 2 groups were the experimental groups and the other 2 were the control groups. We determined whether each group was going to be randomly assigned into the experimental or control group with a lottery method. We wrote the words “experimental” and “control” on 4 pieces of paper (2 slips for experimental and 2 for control) and placed these

The participants were given a piece of paper to record their game score, and an iPhone on which they would play the actual game. For the experimental group, the participants were informed that if they were to achieve a score of 25 points on impossible mode, they would receive ice cream as their reward. In addition, they were warned that quitting the experiment or being unable to achieve the score of 25 would disqualify them from receiving ice cream. For the control group, the participants were not informed about the ice cream reward but were told that they could quit at any time during the experiment. Both groups were instructed to write down their scores on the sheet of paper after every loss. The participants had the option of starting a new game after every loss or simply quitting the game. The groups weren’t given a practice trial prior to the actual experiment in order to clearly see their progress throughout the experiment. After the 5-minute time frame ended, the participants were asked what they thought the experiment was about and were then given a debrief statement, which can be referred to in the Appendices section. We collected all the data and averaged the scores of each individual based on the sum of all their game scores and the total number of games …show more content…
Researchers should also incorporate verbal and tangible rewards as their variables as it proved significant findings for previous researchers. Although our findings were not significant, other researchers should not get discouraged to conduct this experiment. Reason being, we need to figure out ways of motivating members in our society because motivation is the drive that allows people to complete tasks in a timely manner. The experiment consists of two parts. First, we need to randomly select children from low income families and randomly assign them into two groups: A and B, recording their fitness like BMI data. Second, we have to manipulate one and the only one independent variable which is the presence versus the absence of exercise and measure the dependent variable which is the children’s BMI data. To be specific, we keep one group of children do exercise every day and another group be more sedentary as well as control all other conditions or variables equal. Also, to avoid the experimenter expectancy effect and the placebo effect, we should let other researchers assign the groups without knowing which one is the experimental group or control group by ourselves.…

The results highlighted a correlation, but we are not quite sure if the results yielded a causation. The arithmetic mean for the control group is 29.048. This signifies that in 2 minutes, the average subject tested scored 29 out of a total 36 or an 80.68% percent accuracy. On the other hand, the average for the our experiment group, the subjects give gatorade, is 30.524 or an 84.78 percent accuracy. The results slightly improved for the experiment, but it is highly unlikely that this is due to the actual gatorade consumption.…

The judicial system often relies on confessions to determine a suspect’s guilt or innocence. And yet, factors such as social influences and pressures from the interrogation can impact the way one views one’s memory when presented with false evidence. For instance, the type of questions and methods the police use can alter the actual memories the subject has. As a result, a subject may become convinced that he or she is guilty when an internalized confession starts to form. In order to minimize accusations against the innocent, whether a confession was voluntary or forced should be emphasized in determining whether the confession is accurate.…

There have been several researchers studying the effects of caffeine, and they believe it can enhance athletic performance and agility in sports. Because of this we believe if caffeine levels are increased, then time taken to run a lap will decrease when time is a function of caffeine level. To test this we will have a group of ten subject male and female who around the same athletic capabilities. Then, we will give them a set volume of liquid at different caffeine levels to see if the subjects running time changes with the caffeine.…

A true experiment, taking place in a natural setting to determine the causal relationship between two things, has many important factors to account for. The experiment administrator must first consider the independent and dependent variables, pre testing and post testing of subjects, and the split between experimental and control groups. These two groups must be equivalent, and the experimental group must be exposed to the treatment, or the independent variable. My true experiment to test whether art therapy programs for serious violent and chronic juvenile offenders is effective in reducing recidivism of offenders involves a sample size of 100 juvenile offenders, all with similar release dates.
