Pi makes rational decisions to defend himself against the tiger on the lifeboat. “Life will defend itself no matter how small it is. Every animal is ferocious and dangerous.” It is a natural instinct to defend yourself and to do so he made raft out of oars and life jackets. While on the raft, Pi makes a large decision that established: Pi would make it to land safely. Pi made the choice that he would keep Richard Parker with him because he was the key to Pi’s survival because in the survival manual that Pi found on top of the food and water, it stated that a key component to survival is company. Richard Parker was the only company Pi had for a long while. Richard Parker also decided to let Pi live because he was a source of food for him. With Richard Parker on the boat Pi completed another task stated in the manual: Pi needed to always be busy, but not over work himself. Richard Parker kept Pi busy by needing Pi to train him so they could intertwine and work as a team to survive. In the first story, Pi has ideas and beliefs. “If you take two steps towards god, god will come running toward you.” This quote describes how Pi has taken the beginning steps towards god and god has accepted him. The laws of life include: laws of physics, laws of logic, and the laws of gravity. While Pi tells the second story a few unexplained situations occur. This story is extremely undetailed and is likely not have happened. In the context of the book it states that Pi creates a story because the businessmen ask him to tell them a story that does not include animals. The key word in that sentence is create, because it means that the story took place in Pi’s imagination. The story wasn’t thought all the way through which creates the possibility that the laws of Physics and logic could
