The expected pattern of development and how babies and children learn and develop
0-1years:
Babies will be able to recognise their carer, and be able to respond to physical emotion such as a smile. When they see this person, it will make them feel happy and at ease. They will also start to have a feeding routine and will be able to recognise when they are hungry. Babies will also begin to make associate that quiet calming voices are for sleep time or feeding. As the baby reaches 6 months it should respond to some frequently used words such as ‘mama’ and ‘dada’. They may also be interested in a particular rhyme or story- one they enjoy being spoken. They may have a favourite toy which they will look for if they cannot see it near them.

The child will also enjoy playing alongside others nicely.
2-3 years:
The child’s vocabulary is rapidly increasing, in addition, learning rhymes and songs. Will have more of a personality; showing things they like and dislike. They will speak clearly and form longer sentences. They will have a good relationship with other children, having more understanding of those around them. They can also understand that some actions have consequence- being able to understand the basic rules.
Maybe able to count up to ten and recognise some of these numbers. They will recognise everyday simple shapes and may attempt to copy them e.g., circle, square, triangle etc.
Outside the child will be able to climb more adventurously, use a motion to help them on ride on toys.
3-4 years:
Children will become more curious asking more questions and wanting to know why things happen. They will develop more understanding for abstract. Can speak clearly with longer sentences and they will now tell stories. They will have a better understanding of time (morning, afternoon, night etc.) counting should be something they do with ease and now …show more content…
More words are being spoken and sentences are flowing together. Reading books alone is more enjoyable- children are now open to more words many of which they are beginning to sound-out. Your child should be able to recite the days of the week and the months of the year. Categorising objects is done well, left and right are now known to them. Money, space and time are understood, and spoken about.
At this age, children may begin to push boundaries and voice their opinions. A child of this age is open to many relationships; family members, teachers and staff at school and a growing importance to them-their friends. They may start to feel a pressure to grow a strong relationship to form a “best friend.” Jealously may occur if the child has another sibling, but the knowledge of their own feelings and the consequence of their actions are increasing.
There’s a rising independence from the child, chores are now followed through (tidying away personal belongings, cleaning the table etc.) your child may want to enrol in different activities and
