Expectations About Suicide Squad

Improved Essays
The expectations about Suicide Squad were high as the offbeat movie of anti-heroes, but it turned out to be much below the mark.
The anti-heroes failed to terrorize and were more of an eyesore. Some characters need a special mention.
Killer Crocs did not seem to be villainous enough and one can hardly bear him on the screen for long. Slipknot’s on screen presence was not felt at all as his role was just that while escaping he gets caught by the Special Forces.
Boomerang appeared to be more of a bully on screen rather than a villain. And, again, unlike an anti-hero, he was not at all terrifying. The most annoying character is the Enchantress. Her many masks makes the character too hard to bear.
However, there are some sparks in the movie

Thumbs down Although the film has one of the most captivating chase scenes and incredible actions, the storyline is not entirely satisfying. The action scenes are excess but the development of the story is really fantastic. All the same, Insurgent is one of the movies that you need to add into your must-watch…

Find a way to make her determined, but soften her behavior. She might act like she’s in charge, but internally show her struggling and more of her vulnerabilities. Macbeth and Walter White Although The Breaking Bad seems like a comedy at the first sight with all the music used in the background of the cooking scene, it is actually a tragedy for every single one in the story. Interestingly, I agree that the stature of Macbeth is very similar with the one with Walter White. And we can see the consensus is actually based on the Shakespearean scope.…

Many people feel like Chris Kyle was a hero who deserves all the praise he gets, while others feel like he’s no better than a serial killer. At the end of the day it is just a matter of opinion, but it is very clear what side of the argument that the people who made the movie were on. It does spend a lot of time glorifying Chris Kyle, which will undoubtedly put some people off. The movie also barely touches on the overall controversy of the Iraq War, and just boils it down to “It’s ok, because America is always right”, another controversial aspect that will put some people off. That being said, it isn’t just the “conservative propaganda piece” that some may lead you to believe.…

Pirrello, a critic for TheWrap, stated that “The death of Emma Stone’s character, Gwen Stacy, is arguably the film’s best, most earned emotional beat” (Pirrello 2014). The relationship between Gwen and Peter seemed to be the only thing the audience cared about in the movie. Without that emotional bond, there was nothing to hold the franchise together. From the weak character motivations to the unexplained plot holes, the film did not have a clear message. This movie also tried to cram in the Sinister Six, without giving proper character development for each member.…

Catcher in the Rye’s Holden Caulfield, Harry Potter’s Severus Snape, and Neuromancer’s Henry Case all share something in common—they are antiheroes. Merriam-Webster’s definition of an antihero is, “a protagonist or notable figure who is conspicuously lacking in heroic qualities” (Merriam-Webster). While that is the ‘dictionary definition,’ many authors have taken liberties in describing which “heroic qualities” are missing, and which traits are used instead (Merriam-Webster). Through a variety of works, authors portray the anti-hero as an unconventional protagonist who is lonesome and unorthodox, and who uses these characteristics to overcome obstacles, rather than succumb to them.…

Villains are an interesting bunch in that the same person can be seen as both minor/major, or helpful/dangerous. I guess the same could be said about heroes though. Chuck Klosterman, a best selling author, wrote an essay titled “Electric Funeral,” a chapter of I Wear the Black Hat: Grappling with Villains (Real and Imagined), which details villains of today-different types of technocrats. The three “villains” he mainly focuses on are Perez Hilton, Kim Dotcom, and Julian Assange, who each vary greatly on the spectrum of their acts. Hilton is a blogger who likes to post photoshopped pictures and articles, Dotcom created Megaupload, a website to post copyrighted material illegally, and Assange is the head creator of WikiLeaks.…

In 2013, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel made you believe a man could fly. Now, Justin Lin’s Fast And Furious 5 will make you believe a bus can roll without injuring anyone inside, that a man can be punched through a solid brick wall and still come out the other side unscathed, and that it is possible to keep up with a train in only a muscle car. The film has absolutely no concern for realism, but then again, anyone who has watched the previous four crazy, action-filled films know that the franchise has never had much care for the laws of physics.…

An anti-hero is the “principal character of a modern literary or dramatic work who lacks the attributes of the traditional protagonist or hero” (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). Anti-heroes are flawed heroes who fail to succeed at their ultimate goal. Perfect examples of an anti-hero are Jay Gatsby, in The Great Gatsby and J. Alfred Prufrock, present in the poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a man who grew up in poverty and attempts to remake the past by altering his identity into that of a rich man in order to win back the love of Daisy Buchanan. On the other hand, in “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T. S. Eliot, the main character, J. Alfred Prufrock, fails to gather enough courage to propose to a woman he truly loves because of his indecisiveness and…
