Expectancy theory consists of expectancy, instrumentality, and valance. Expectancy refers to the likelihood that efforts will lead to performance. Instrumentality indicates the likelihood that performance will lead to outcome. Finally, valance refers to how much the expected outcome is valued. The dominant thing I will take away from this experience is the importance of addressing issues right away. A group project like this has a very limited lifespan, since it only lasts for one semester. Therefore, if issues are not solved right away the performance of the project will be greatly weakened.
Another meaningful lesson I took away from this assignment is the importance of thoughtful planning. Taking the time to comprehensively plan and outline a project, and all of its components will make the rest of the work a lot easier. It is important that this is done early in the semester in order to decrease misunderstandings and unnecessary work. This was something that we did not do.
Yes, we planned our project and followed that plan. However, the plan and the project themselves were done somewhat casual. No matter what the circumstances are, work, school, or life related, having a clear plan and a clear goal will result in a more effective excision. In future projects having a clear plan including dates and tasks to follow, may help to ensure that all group members participates and helps even out the work
